necessary? no. recommended? yes. whey does alot more than just give you protein. it also increases protein synthesis (how well your body utilizes protein to build muscle) so any protein you take on top of whey will be better absorbed. whey is also, imo, the best choice for postworkout because it gives you a faster acting protein to get your muscles rebuilding faster.
