Iron,
Are you male or female?
Checking because of the name.
This is the FEMALE BB Section and if you are a male it would be best to move to the regular Nutrition section.
For men, yes soy has a negative effect due to the fact that it can be testosterone suppressive if it becomes the sole source of protein.
Eggs and milk are great sources.
Combined protein powder blends are a great source also.

The focus of protein for vegetarians will be milk, cheese, eggs, tofu, yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, grains, vegetables, protein drinks, natural peanut, and almond butter for the bulk of protein source. Remember, it takes two incomplete proteins to equal one complete protein.

No problems with Soya unless eaten in massive quantities apparently.

Hi!!
I'm a vegan, no milk eggs meat etc... and i don't eat tofu everyday and i'm doing fine loll!!! my muscles have not became any smaller or weaker, and i have been a vegetarian for 3 years and vegan for 8 months.
Amino acids are found in everything you eat and they all add up to eventually become protein and build your muscles.
If you think about it, gorillas have very impressive lean mass, and they eat leaves and plants all day!

I've been vegan, vegetarian and omnivorous over the last 20 years. After much experimenting, I've found what works best for me: I eat fish and eggs, beans, nuts and seeds and only a *small* amount of tofu/tempeh/soy products. I can not tolerate dairy at all, so I don't eat it, not even whey powder.
I have found some GREAT vegan protein powders that do not contain soy-currenly I'm using one that has a hemp, pea and chia seed mix, and I also use brown rice powder. My body absorbs that stuff like crazy!
I know the fish is not so great due to accumulated environmental toxins, and I may give that up too. I eat mostly albacore tuna, a few times a week, and organic, free range eggs, one or two a day or every other day. Plus at least one plant based protein smoothie with greens in it every day.
I've tried the vegan bodybuilding approach. For some reason, my hormones need just that little bit of egg, especially, to balance insulin. When I am totally plant based, after a week or two I start CRAVING sugar, which can be a sign of imbalanced insulin. The eggs take that right away and I can go weeks and weeks without any sugar cravings at all. I'd rather eat a bit of animal protein than be tortured with sugar cravings.
anyway, just wanted to share another mostly veg viewpoint!
