When you load the plates, is it letters facing in or out?
And if you load them facing inward, WHY O WHY?! Who started this? Why is it, it!? I want, no I NEED, a real awsner. I have yet to see a difference, but for whatever reason, have been told countless times, they should face in.
Obviously it doesn't apply to symetrical plates, but the standard kind with a lip on them.

i face em out. when i pull em off, i hold my thumb under the clef and grip the smoothside. that way its easier to put back on the rack

I usually load mine with letters facing out, but as long as it's done the same way on both sides I don't really care.
One thing that bugs me though, is that our gym has both black and silver plates, and it annoys me when the colors are off, like
|b|s|b|--------|s|b|b|
Yeah, I know, it's stupid. Not claiming it isn't.part of DA...keep it on the QT

If I'm training at one gym, on my heavy set, I usually have to have the plates (hexagonal or whatever with the handles) aligned, straightened and flush on both sides. They're dual sided so there is no in or out.
The other gym I train at, it's usually facing in, but either way psychologically I need all the plates the same.I'm just here to learn.

I'm the same as the last couple posters... I need all the same plates facing the same way.
What really annoys me is when people put a 25, then a 10, then another 25 on the same side of the bar... I hate those gaps.
It seems we are all showing signs of serious obsessive-compulsive behavior.

I'd say 10. Cuz we all know huge drops in weight aren't always that beneficial, except for perhaps with the Big 3.The complete shoulder and RC injury thread, written by myself:

I put the plates with the letters facing OUT. It's easier for other people watching to see how much I'm lifting.
j/k, I put them out, but it's because it leaves someplace for my fingers to wrap around the clamps. If the letters face in your putting the clamp against the fully flat surface, which leaves less room for your hand. When the opportunity has arrived,
The time for preparation has past.

Hey what about the lock nut that holds the plates securely onto the bar? Do u put them on facing in or out, I've seen people put them on facing in. Anyway I think only a spastic would put the plate on letters facing in. No offence, but they were clearly made with the intension of putting them on letters facing out.

I always load my plates with the letters facing out. One thing that i'm sure bugs someone in my gym is the way i load up the plates on my squat workout. My training partner usually goes first and he squats 80kg
|10|20|-----------------|20|10| but i squat 120kg and it is easiest to just put another 20 on each side
|20|10|20|-----------------|20|10|20|
