For all the redheads out there, how do you manage to tan? I am one pale motherf-ker, and I would like to get just a shade darker. Sometimes if I am out in the sun alot (jogging outside of filming a movie) I will develop a nice little tan. It's not much, but I do look alot better. However, it's not near what normal people can develop. Anymore than a slight tan and we will start to burn alot.
My question is, have any redheads tried tanning salons?

Im half red head/blonde (in winter), blonde in summer
Im not totally pale, it just takes me a while to tan. But I do stand out in school with whiter skin than most people.
I went to a tanning bed and started at 8 mins, worked my way up to 15 mins.
Its just more gradual.
My profile pic = tanned, recently from beds

I tan pretty well. It really just depends on how much pigment you have in your skin. My arms and legs, for instance, tan extremly well while my chest and back take longer and mostly burn in the beginning because they are not exposed to the sun. Try some controlled tanning in a tanning bed. Just going for very short amounts of time and just do it slowly. It could take longer, but it's doable.Whoa Guy!

You should feel pride in the fact that you can actually go into direct sunlight, for most other gingers cannot. Don't take for granted the privilege that you have of being in the sun, a tan is out of the question for one with ginger like qualities.1 Rep Maxes (As of 4/15/08)

He's like Mozart and I'm like Mozart's friend. No, I'm like Butch Cassidy and Michael is like Mozart. You try and hurt Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head, courtesy of Butch Cassidy.

Some red heads have brown eyes which is a sign of high melanin production, thus they are able to tan just fine I assume. But for others, they have more freckles which are basically spots of high concentrations of melanin, and the majority of their skin is unable to produce enough melanin to become tan so they burn. So... some do not tan very well at all.
There is this one girl who is one of those people who goes tanning and it just brings out her freckles and she's always red... it's really just awful and sad to see.
Applying sunSCREEN (not sunblock) will help screen out UBV rays and should help moderate the amount of light to give you a base tan... Other than that, you probably just have to spend a lot more time in moderate sunlight to get somewhat of a tan. Taking L-Tyrosine along with a multivitamin may also help in the production of melanin which would help with a tan. Moisturizing helps hold a tan A LOT longer, because your skin sheds itself very quickly, along with your tanned skin.
I used to be pretty pale and I'm not sure if this is possible, but it seems the older I get, the darker my hair is getting and the more tan I am... I am even starting to have a bit of an olive skin in the winter.
