AceRx's Shed the Weight Thread
Hey you guys-
Well, I'm officially off today to lose some weight!! I am gonna see what I can do in the next 90 days. I am hoping to lose about 20lbs, but we will see how it goes. I plan on posting my diet/workout for each day just so you can see it and I can keep track of things easier. I plan on doing cardio probably 5x a week and then lifting about 3x a week. I have got to get in better health.
Right now, I am 25 y/o, 5'8" and 206 lbs. My ultimate goal weight is about 165, but I am gonna shoot for 185 for this first phase. I have been inspired by many other threads on the board by Skelooth and New2lifting. John Stone's website is also an awesome resource for those of you who are trying to lose the weight. His transformation is unbelievable.
The calculators on BB.com show that my RMR is 2094 cal/day. I am fairly active at my job (a lot of walking). My plan is to cycle the calories daily and average about 1700-1800/day. Some days I will eat more and some days less just to keep my metabolism shocked. My cardio is going to be a mix of the elliptical running machine and the bike. Weights are going to be a total body workout with compound exercises just to build up some muscle mass.
I have posted my "before" picture below. I will post a new one each week so you and I can see some results! Wish me luck, I'll check back every day! Any suggestions or tips you may have would be appreciated.....

Good luck.
If you stick with it the weight comes off fast.
Do you have a diet planned out for what you plan for your daily meals?

Let's see some flexed pics! Might as well start working on the poses if you're gonna get shredded!
And remember RMR Is how many calories you'd burn in a coma. I wouldn't recommend starting under 2500cal/day, especially with a non-deskjob. I started at 2700cal and am down to 2500cal now that I'm 40lbs lighter.
Oh yeah, and make sure that after you get used to your lifts and you're sure your technique is good. Lift heavy weight for low reps to failure! You're 25 so your testosterone levels should be through the roof. Use them!

Thanks for checking in you guys. I need all the support I can get.
As far as my diet goes, I don't think I am going to make some strict plan. I know if I do that, I will fail. I am just going to try and eat often, good-clean foods, and monitor my caloric intake. That is my biggest problem. That and portion control...

congrats on making the decision to lose the weight! Looks like you have a bit to lose. I started out at 215lbs and within a few months dropped to 175lbs. Decided to start bulking got up to 195 and now I'm back to 185 looking a lot better. Portion size is probably your BIGGEST problem!!!

Ha, you look like a pharmacy student. My wife is in pharmacy school. Do you work in retail? How's the transformation going?

I look like a pharmacy student, huh? Hahaha that is probably true. I only have a few more months of pharm school and then I am done with school for life. Pharmacy school has definitely taken its toll on my health. When I started in 02, I weighed about 160 and felt great. Today, I weigh in at 210 lbs, everything pops when I get out of bed, I have acid reflux, and I don't fit in most of my clothes anymore. I think all the hours of studying, working, and worrying about passing a test or getting some sleep has definitely taken its toll on my health.
I worked in retail since my 1st year usually 1-2 days per week to make some extra money on the side. Right now, I am working about 10-15 hrs a week at retail and then I have my rotations about 42 hrs a week on top of that. This is why I have trouble finding time to work out. Where does your wife go to pharm school? What year is she in?
I am just getting started on the transformation again. Thanksgiving kind of messed things up but I am going to get back on track. Thanks for your support you guys! I'll let you know how things are going....

She goes to the University of Missouri- Kansas City. She is in her fourth year. It's a five year Pharm D. program. My wife is always on edge about the next test. It seems all of the pharmacy students are always super stressed about school. I think she'll have time to do a lot of things once school is over. You (and my wife) have my respect. It seems like super-boring work (especially retail).
Don't let a little Thanksgiving speed bump slow you down. Get you a goal sheet! Read the thread in the Losing fat section. You can and will do it!
Keep us informed!
AJ
BTW I hate the fitness/nutrition crap y'all learn about in class. I'm sure these professors are are extremely intelligent, but I think it's no coincidence that many of them are out of shape weaklings. They're not qualified to train anyone, let alone medical professionals about fitness. Rant off.

DAMN RIGHT!!
That is an excellent thread written by a brilliant man….
Speaking of stress at school, I am currently on my 48th hour without sleep and have 2 test in 4 hours, then a 20 page research project due tomorrow…so don’t feel to bad
I’ve been lurking in your thread, seems like you have your head in the right place, keep up it up and I’m sure come spring you will run to the beach/pool every chance you have to go show off, later on--LQ

Dang lifequest, good luck on all those tests!! What are you studying in school? I am glad I am done with tests. The only one I have left is the board exam to be a licensed pharmacist next summer.
I am going to try and clean up my diet starting today. I am going to cut down the cokes (trying to sub in diet ones) and increase the water intake. I am going to put what I eat into fitday.com just so I can control the calories. My biggest problem is PORTION CONTROL. I don't think I realize how many calories I am taking in and I think recording it all down may help with that.
I'll post the link to my Fitday account if anybody wants to check it out. I have to work 12 hours today so I don't know if I'll get the workout in, but I am gonna focus on eating healthy today.
Ya'll take it ez...

Well, I guess I have to help you now and not just pick on LQ.
Okay, if you regularly drink Coke, you might want to try a different brand cola for the diet. It helps adjust. Also, if you seem to be peeing a lot, it might be the carbonation in the pop. A couple weeks ago, we just figured out that was PermanentChange's problem. Try substituting tea (which has healthy antioxidents). Non caffinated options are Crystal Light and Sugar Free Koolaid. But water is your best bet. You can squeeze any kind of citrus fruit in it to help relieve the monotony.
Portion control was also my problem. It gets really old and annoying but if you spend the next six months measuring and/or weighing everything you eat (good and bad), you'll have a much better handle on what correct portions are. After almost three years of this, I can eyeball almost anything and give you a fairly accurate calorie count and probably macros on it. Every 4 - 6 weeks, I still go back to measuring (and using fitday) to make sure I'm not cheating on my portion sizes.

AceRX,
You've GOT to drop the regular soda. I never thought I could enjoy a diet soda, but I've been drinking them for a few years now. You will get used to them, and come to enjoy them. I try to use diet soda as a treat to replace candy. I grew up on regular Kool Aid, but now I drink the hell out of some Crystal Light. It will all taste great after some time, looking trim and cut-the-hell up will make it all worthwhile.
Be Be,
Hello, neighbor.

the regular sodas are a killer...6 months ago, I was 210+pounds and guzzling 4-6 dr. peppers a day....I must of done that for 10 years...and then I started drinking diet....at first diet tasted awful...now it is just as good as regular to me and I don't feel bad drinking them knowing they have zero calories....switch to diet as soon as possible
I know school is real stressful....I remember when I was in undergraduate civil engineering ....18 hours of classes and working 20-30 hours a week....It is hard to function sometimes with all the stress...but it will pay off in the end...you are in a good field
I am doing an online masters that work pays for...I just take 1 class a semester...I guess I am getting lazy since just one class a semester seems to overwhelm me...and I used to be able to take 6 or 7 classes when in undergrad
keep up the studying bro
Life is a breeze once you finish your education
and try to sqeeze in those workouts when you can
