Good point ctgblue, I'm so new at this, I hadn't even thought about that. I was thinking of the big 3 lifts, all less than 200 pounds. From the description, I think I would like the "Muscle Clamps" best.

From what I've read, collars for heavy dumbbells have to be even stronger than collars for heavy barbells, is that true? Max

    YES
If using a straight bar predominantly, spring clips would be fine.
However, EZ curl and dumbbells can get crooked fast and spring clips will not hold.
The muscle clamp is good for barbell and EZ curl but NOT olympic DB's
I'd use these ( http://www.ivanko.com/products/prd_text/COT2.html )for the barbells, but I'd go ahead and invest in a set of SPINLOCK std 1" DB handles and 100-200 lbs of std weights, evenly matched (IE 4 of each size)
I will not do pullovers or one arm extensions with anything but spinlocks or pro-dumbbells.
I gave away my std bars and benches, but kept the weights and DB handles.
    that is my recommendation
