Alright I am in college right now and I was in really good shape until I got this job, now I'm trying to workout alot more. It's also hard to avoid parting though, so what is better to drink as far as caloric content goes? Oh yeah when I drink beer its usually about 13-16 in a night, im not sure how many for hard liquor, I dont drink it that much.

any light beer will have more calories then a shot of gin or vodka. I would go with the clear ****. 80 proof of vodka around 65 calories per shot.. with no carbs.. its just empty calories.. your best bet would be to mix it with some diet drinks .. or something healthy for you such as Orange juice.. cranberry juice. I would watch the juices because of the sugars in them. The reason i stay away from beer it takes me like a lot to get me drunk... i buy 100 proof nicolai ... gets ya drunk quick

people saying drink beer to get drunk are horribly misinformed
yes, one beer has less cals that liqure BUT here are reasons why its worse:
has cabs, not just empty cals. like liquer is
takes MORE beer to get you drunk, so you end up taking in more cals.
will make you more dehydrated since you will not be able to drink water (you will be so full from the beers!)
the list goes on and on

Heres an idea. Drink a nice beer, and enjoy the flavour. Don't settle for this diet piss beer because it is just that: Piss. Don't worry about the calories because there's no way you can justify any calorie in an alcoholic drink as being good, so why count it? Just call it a cheat day and enjoy yourself, and your beer.
The first rule of cheat club is you do not talk about cheat club. The second rule of cheat club is you DO NOT talk about cheat club. Third rule of cheat cub, someone yells stop!, goes limp, taps out, the cheat is over. Fourth rule, one cheat at a time, fellas. Fifth rule, cheats will go on as long as they have to. And the sixth and final rule, if this is your first night at cheat club, you have to cheat.

Try giving it up for a month. I was going at a clip where I would get wasted every weekend. I had a falling out with my drinking buddies, stopped drinking at all and don't miss it a bit. Having said that, it's great to indulge and have fun from time to time, life being as short as it is, and if you had to pick between the two, personally I would go with clear, distilled liquors. They are more pure and you will have less gnarly hangovers. The trick is being able to do it in moderation and neither one will do you harm.

drinking is bad for you no matter what, so dont worry about it too much...i drink more than i should but im in college and i like having fun...as long as you eat clean drinking hard every once in awhile will not kill you...the only thing ive noticed when i drink hard, is that it makes it hard to get to the gym and eat right the next day...just have fun cause if you cant enjoy college life you will regret it later in life

Here's my two cents on this situation. Beer versus hard liqour, i think beer is better. Beer, I'm probably good with 6-8 bottles. I'll get a good buzzing going and I'll have a good time. With liqour though... I'll take it a little far. That's where the drinking a "just a little bit" turns to "just a little bit more." LoL. I'll get pretty damn drunk, probably end up eating with friends afterwards (what are my choices: mexican or dennys), and forget to drink water before passing out. Let alone, forgetting some parts of the night.
Here's my more logical view. I figure the consumption of hard liqour will leave more alcohol in my system all based on how I feel in the morning. With beer, I always wake up feeling fine. With HL, I'll have my hangover and loss of appetite the next day. And you all know how it affects your protein synthesis and how acetate will be your primary source of fuel, so you can kiss fat loss good bye. In my case, it's either eight beers or eight shots plus, so for sure the eight beers will be a better choice for me. But even at 8 beers vs. say, 4 shots, wouldn't you think the beer is still a better option. Sure, theres twice as many calories there, but the alcohol amount and recovery time for normal functioning might still be lower. You will be consuming less calories with the shots, but more acetate.
Nothing here proven.Knowing is not enough, you must apply. Do it.

The beer vs liquor question should not be about calories, but about effects. Liquor takes a much higher toll on the body than beer, in general- unless you are drinking your liquor very diluted. And even then, you are likely mixing it with a high simple-carb drink. But most people mix liquor drinks a lot stronger than even your "ICE" beers. The calorie result is insignificant when looking at the other health issues. If you are going to drink at all, go with beer.
Another thing to consider. It is much harder to OD on beer than liquor.
If youre going to drink both, drink liquor before beer:
Liquor before beer, never fear
Beer before liquor, makes you sicker quickerLast edited by Diana Ball; 11-07-2005 at 01:05 AM.

I'm not too sure on the ibuprofen multiplying, but for a fact, I know it multiplies the effects of depressants. It's actually quite scary and one of the reason for accidental deaths. It multiplies the effects of your depressants to 2,6, even 10 times, so once your body becomes so relaxed, it may shut down.
