Should I work abs?

As you can probably tell from my profile pics, I've got a lot of work to do before my abs make an appearance. I'm OK with that, and I don't mind putting in the work to get there, but what I'm wondering is, at this point, should I be working my abs at all?

Im at 21-22% body fat and I'm already doing ab workouts. Why not work them so you'll have ripped abs by the time you lose enough fat to see them? That's my stance on it anyway.

I just add 2-3 sets of weighted decline situps at the end of each workout.

Wouldn't surprise me. My dad was, which led to a host of ailments and more medications than I care to remember. Which, incidentally, is a big part of why I'm working out... Thanks, everyone, for the responses. I think I'll put in the ab exercises, but I won't put too much into it yet.

I'd say do it. As a person who lost a lot of weight, I can attest that simple things like ab workouts will make you feel like you're making progress immediately. Don't skimp out on other things to do them though.

Occasionally, doing what your body 'feels' is better than the advice you'll get because your mind will sort it out.

do em

Working your abs is good for your core. Building your core will help you in other movements like your squats, deads etc.

What? That alone will not give anyone a flatter stomach. At this point, that's not why he should be doing ab work. Losing body fat by implementing a good eating plan and doing some type of cardio on a regular basis may eventually get him to a flatter stomach. As hjayss stated above - he needs strong abdominals for good balanced core strength so he can do the big lifts which in turn add more muscle to the big muscle groups throughout the body. This will help burn calories faster and more efficiently which will lead to overall fat loss and that flatter stomach.

Some core work should be included in everyones weight lifting routine. You are using a weight lifting routine right? A lot of workouts like deads, squats, and standing military presses will work your core. Some other good things to throw in are weighted crunches. A good core exercise is planks. Google that one. You would think it's easy but it's suprisingly damn hard at first.

Go Packers huh? I was born in Kenosha.
