Monster Shake, OK???
I was reading MD and Capriese Murray said that 3 meals of the day he makes a shake with Oatmeal, Whey, and Nuts...he calls it the "Monster Shake"
Between college, work, and just being tired as fuk from training, this would save me some time in the kitchen.
My question is, is it a good enough replacement for actual meals...I mean the carbs are a whole food, but the protein is just whey. Who thinks this can help..It actually tastes really good.. I used 50g choc. ON whey, 1/2 cup oats, and 1tbsp all natural PB. Just blend it and it rocks.

bump, I would like an answer to this too. A lot of the time I'd just toss in oats, cottage cheese, whey, fruit, milk, anything thats available and make a monster shake that fills up 2 1/2 tall glasses. It would be a meal if I ate them without shredding it, but would turning it into a shake mean it gets digested faster??

To a slight degree it might be digested faster but not any significant amount. Shakes are great as quick meals on the go or if you don't feel like you can eat anymore. Drink up, i know I do.

Yeah pretty much. If you want a thicker shake then use one cup(8oz) of milk. I usually use one cup of oats.

Thx Riceboi. Now just so I know what to look for, if I go to wal mart tomorrow what are the best oats I can buy? I just want to make sure I know what you guys are talking about when you say oats. Also I have a fresh can of Peter Pan PB will that do? I'm gonna try this tomorrow morning.

You can chuck a few raw eggs into it too. You can't even taste them and its an easy 10g of protein, is natural and good for ya.

Get Natural Peanut butter. The Ingredients should be as follows: Peanuts. (maybe salt). I'm pretty sure peter pan has got a lot of sugar and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

I put 1/2 cup Whole Oats, not instant, 1 tbsp all natural PB, 2 scoops ON choc. whey, and 8oz of Low fat Milk...blend for a min, and you're set. The oats tend to sink to bottom after a while, so after every couple of sips shake it up, unless you just down it...I end up chewing a little, but it tastes so good, and it's a lot easier for me to get down than eating oats normally.

Awesome Shake
AWESOME SHAKE:
1 cup quick oats (powdered in a coffee grinder-much better-stays mixed better)
1 scoop whey
1-2 Tbs nat PB (Smuckers)(use a lil less pre and post workout)
~Tbs honey
1-2 cups milk (substitute w water pre and post-workout)
put in a BIG cup
blend thoroughly w a hand blender (so much easier than using a regular blender)
Whey and oats goes from bland to just AWESOME!

Ideally if your going to be drinking this shake as a MRP (Meal Replacement Shake) then you want a 40/40/20 split. Which is 40% protein 40% carbs 20% fats.
So basically a simple shake that would be filling etc would be somthing like this. (I don't have the exact proportions readily avalible but you can figure it out with a little bit of imagination)
50g of complex carbs (Oats)
50g of protein any mix of these ingredients will do (Whey protein powder, FF cottage cheese, yougrt, milk)
25g of fats (natural peanut butter, flax oil, fish oil, some type of nuts blended, extra virgin olive oil)
Blend it all up and drink it.. usually a MRP depending on your caloric needs is gonna be between 500-700 calories. Again this all depends on size and such.
Also a thing to note, you can throw in some fruit as well (Fresh or frozen) it will up your carbs a little bit because of the sugar, but I'm a big beliver in you can never have too much fruit unless your extremly sensitive to carbs and your cutting.

Thanks for the suggestion but I think you are calculating that wrong.
50g carb x 4 calories per gram = 200 cal
50g protein x 4 cal per gram = 200 cal
25g fat x 9 cal per gram = 225 cal
That is 36% calories from fat, with a total of 625 calories! Remember, fat grams have more calories than carbs and protein!
