Hot Ketosis on the Beach
So, I decided to start a log, since I am trying to do this whole ketosis thing, and I feel really friggin clueless. I have been on this thing (I think) for 2 days now. I would have been on it 3 days, but I am pretty sure monday was all wrong.
THere was this chocolate covered macadamia nut, and some toasted quinoa... but I know better now
I am having a hard time eating all the calories I need though, which is usually NOT a problem. Eating clean is usually a problem but when I commit to a diet, then all of a sudden calories become the issue. Its amazing how many calories are hidden in cupcakes and french fries... but I digress.
Anyway, yesterdays stats were:
1,143 cals -- 136g fat -- 47g Carbs -- 10g fiber -- 72g Protein
so far today I'm at:
2,099 cals -- 176g fat -- 47g carbs -- 23g fiber -- 139g protein
(that doesnt seem right, I know but I ate alot of tofu today
I am using http://www.myplate.com to track my macros. They have everything in there. Its pretty cool.
So anyway, any advice will help folks. I am probably going to have some more coconut butter tonight to add to my fat and calories...

I think your carbs are still too high.
Even taking the 10g fiber away, you still have 37g carbs. Try to drop that to 20 or less. At least for the first two weeks.
Good luck to you!

Thanks. Day 2 was a little better, I was only at about 24g of carbs, but I realized that is still a little high. Today I am aiming to keep it around 15 or so. I am a runner and therefore a pasta addict, so I am still trying to get used to not eating carbs.
Maybe there will be some benefit in my accidental slow induction into ketosis, lol.
Well, the workouts since starting ketosis have been ok. I have run alot less this week. So far I am only at about 16 miles, so I have some make up to do over the next couple of days

Tired of eating:(
This is alot more difficult than it looks. I dont eat pork (religious) and so I am strugglin to get carb free fats in without guzzling the olive oil *the thought crossed my mind*
I know that I need to eat more fats for this to work, but its really rough. I may eat some more beef sausage tonight if I can work up the energy...
heres where I am at so far.
1,430Calories
105g Fat
16g Net Carbs (38g carbs - 22g fiber)
89g protein
Im tired, and its 10 already so I may not be able to get any thing else in.. im trying

You don't need pork, and you definately don't need olive oil.
Use eggs, chicken wings, chicken thighs (save the fat for cooking), turkey wings, ground turkey (85%), Heavy whipping cream, fatty beef cuts (chuck roast), and plenty of lamb.
Are you muslim?

sneaking in the fat!
You can also sneak 1 tbs flax oil into protein shakes and you won't even know it's there. I do eat dairy, eggs, nuts and peanut butter on the CKD, but I also count and log everything so I know where I am at carb wise. You can also eat turkey bacon (no carbs) and cook it in coconut oil and it is SUPER yummy, keto friendly and pork free. That's what I usually do. The "toppings" I put on my food actually account for most of my fat. I am learning to be in love with salmon and steak, too. I am making salmon mixed with Vegenaise (it's like vegan mayo, and all fat just like mayo) and some spices for my lunch today, kinda like a fattier version of tuna salad.
Good luck and maybe check out the recipes section for suggestions on how to sneak more fat in. I had the "keto pancakes" this morning, mmm...

I have been eating alot of eggs, but the fat ratiois never high enough. I end up having really high protein. Yesterday before the olive oil I was at like 46% protein. I didnt think about lamb though.
This is hard because typically I dont eat alot of meat. I am (outside of keto) about 75% vegetarian. lots of tofu, lol.

I cant digest lactose, so dairy is out... and if I am eating like four eggs cooked in 2 tbsp of olive oil, mixed with turkey ham... not bad, so thats going to be my new breakfast.

Never thought about that! I put the turkey bacon back cause it was 99% fat free, and I prefer tofu if its just going to be protein...

I am kinda getting better at this... I think.
So far for today this is what it looks like:
1,519 cal
125g fat
8 net carbs (16g c 8g fiber)
76g protein
I will probably have some lamb or something for dinner before bedroom cardio, lol (boyfriend is finally off duty)
I did go to the gym twice today. 3:30 am shoulders, 4:30 p.m. 45 min Cardio (Running 20min, elliptical 15 min, bike (hills) 10min)
I am 2 lbs later as of this morning, hopefully tommorow morning I will see greater weightloss. That way I know I am moving in the right direction as far as ketosis is involved.
I just realized that hollandaise sauce is high fat and low carbs, I am really looking forward to my fake eggs benedict in the morning (fake = no english muffin, turkey ham instead of reg. ham)

I think I am actually in ketosis!!! Whoo hoo...
My scale read a whopping 6lbs lighter than it did on monday. I didnt weigh myself on tuesday or wednesday, but since thursday its been going down like 1.5lbs a day. I am pretty stoked.
My macros today are roughly as follows:
1,766 cals
129g fat
23g carbs 6g fiber
126g protein
I am still having a hard time with the whole fat thing. I cooked my egg yolks in 2 tsbp olive oil today and these numbers are off, as I had some hollandaise that I cant account for, lol.
I also had some meat that I had to guesstimate on, but it was pretty fatty:P

I ordered lamb chops for dinner last night. Very very satisfying.
I also had my first serious energy crash today. I went to the gym to do some cardio while I was watching the Bears kick some GB arse, and I got carried away cause the game was good.
I always do my cardio while fasting, since I usually get sick if I try any other way, so I was only going to do about 30-40 minutes, ended up doing about 1 hour and 20 minutes to keep watching the first half. Came home to take a shower and lets just say the conditioner is still in my hair because I was too tired to put an effort behind rinsing it out.
I am sitting in my bed eating almonds hoping to gain enough energy to go to the kitchen and cook some eggs... Bears just scored again after another blocked punt though, so I am happy

Me too! I usually order octopus w/ red wine sauce + lamb & saganaki (saganaki is the greatest tasting food there is, btw). Here in Chicago there's a boatload of Greek restaurants to choose from.

Great progress! Keep up the good work...and at least Ketel One in moderation is less dangerous to keto than, let's say, beer or champagne...watch out for the hangovers, tho----nasty on keto.

So Christmas proved to be alot more difficult than I anticipated. So after a wonderful Egyptian xmas eve dinner that was meant to be high fat and low carb, but was very rapidly sabotaged first discretely by the salad and lentil soup, then a little more obviously by the hummous, basmati rice and very very small piece of pita bread. But the ultimate deadly blow was delivered in the form of arooz (rice pudding) and baklawa.
So, since I had my first carb up about a week prematurely (7.5 days into it) and after only 7.6 lbs of weight loss, I am on a fast now. I am going to do about 18 hours and a 6-8 mile run in the a.m. before hopefully getting back in ketosis.
Because I know what I ate, I am not going to list anthing nor will I weigh myself today
Tommorow is a new day and will end my fast and start my keto anew!

Fiber is not required for the digestion of fats and protein. They are almost entirely assimilated (98%).

Yeah, if I dont take my metamucil, its nearly impossible for me to get the fiber and keep my carbs low. I sprinkle flax on stuff so that helps, but I can binge on cabbage and broccoli so I try to limit myself to the amount of veggies I have sine there are trace carbs in EVERYThiNG else. I do get fiber from the almonds i have been going crazy on lately, so that will help. I am slowly figuring it out, its going to take a while to tweak it, but I am open to suggestions.
I am confused as I have read to not count your pwo carbs in your daily count? Doesnt make sense so I count all my carbs and I just try to not have extra carbs after my workout. I dont feel I need them. Today I ran 5 miles up a mountain and back while fasting and I was fine. (post fat arse carb up fast) so now I am back on to my beef sausages and almonds

Whoa, chica---I am impressed! I almost *wish* I could binge on cabbage and broccoli! Unfortunately, I always seem to fall face first into a pizza or cookies or nachos...my tastebuds are naughty.
Today I found a bag of precut "broccoli slaw" that I am going to mix with vegenaise and eat as a side to my meat instead of yet another side of steamed veggies. Exciting!
Oh, and subbed, by the way.

I love broccoli slaw. Yum. If you add peanuts to it you can give it an extra lil crunch. Yum, yum...
I had to work all day today, and I didnt have time to eat that much, which was pretty cool considering my recent fall off the wagon, lol. So by the time I was heading home I was STARVING. I stopped and bought a NY strip and some cauliflower. I made a Yummy Mashed Potatoe alternative out of the cauliflower:
About 16 oz steamed cauliflower
1 small clove garlic, crushed
4 tbsp butter
2 tbsp sour cream
salt
puree all ingredients in food processer and eat with a steak. It will taste just like garlic mash. It was really, really good. I didnt get enough fat in today.
1,634 cals
117g fat
15g carbs 9g fiber
126g protein
I guess I made up for the missing calories at dinner time, lol...

Playing with Christmas toys
I L-O-V-E my new Garmin Forerunner that I got for Christmas. Makes me want to run all the time!
But I am having a love hate relationship with the new jeans I got. I apparantly "look" like I fit a size 27. I dont. My 28's are nice and snug. Some are really snug. But nonetheless, I recieved a pair of 7 Jeans in the cutest cut, but in a size 27.
Now its off to work, and figuring out how to eat like this all day while being away from my kitchen.

Mmmm Chocolate.
I really am convinced I can live in Keto. Seriously, I bought some chocolate today that was 75% and 1/3 of a serving has only 73 cals 5g of fat 5g carbs (2g fiber) 1g protein. So I dipped that into some coconut butter and I was seriously in HEAVEN!!
I am convinces I can make some low carb truffles with those ingredients. Thats my goal for this weekend. I also got my flax meal today so I am about to get my recipe making on. I am trying to figure out how to make low-carb falafel, and yes... this has taken over my weekends
I still think I have one more good trip to the gym left in me. I may eat some more almonds while I am awake... so far heres where I am at for the day:
30 minutes of Cardio
1 long ass back workout
Macros:
1,659 cals
136g fat
34g carbs
13g fiber
72g Protein
