Crunches work best for me. But I wouldn't do an ab routine without putting incline sit-ups in, they hit them hard as long as you keep them tensed throughout the entire set.

I use sit up in my warm up routine. They've always worked for me in building up those top two ab muscles. I've tried decline situps with weights on my chest, but they don't seem to do much.

    I prefer crunches.

Crunches, they isolate the abs more instead of the hip flexors. (I think)

hey man im no scientist or anything so dont take this to be proven or anything but it seems like crunches really work out upper abs most and since u go all the way up for sit-ups...im thinkin they work out ur lower abs more than crunches, or atleast utilize them more..i mean doesnt it seem that way :/ and i think situps dont concentrate on abs as much as crunches, they use some other muscles and eventually i just end up trying to use momentum at the end

Ok i'm quite aware that this could be the dumbest question ever asked on this forum, but it's the internet so I don't give a crap if I get embarresed. What's the difference between sit-ups and crunches? Or more specificaly, what are sit-ups. Because I know exactly what crunches are and when people say situps, I thought they meant the exact same thing.

    CRUNCHES
Lie flat on your back with your feet flat on the ground, or resting on a bench with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle. If you are resting your feet on a bench, place them three to four inches apart and point your toes inward so they touch. Place your hands lightly on either side of your head keeping your elbows in. Don't lock your fingers behind your head! Push the small of your back down in the floor to isolate your ab muscles. Begin to roll your shoulders off the floor. Continue to push down as hard as you can with your lower back. Your shoulders should come up off the floor only about four inches, and your lower back should remain on the floor. Focus on slow, controlled movement - don't cheat yourself by using momentum!

    SIT-UP
Lie on your back on the floor with your feet about should width apart. You may find it easier to put your feet under something to hold them down. Lift your upper body, bending at the waist, until you're sitting up vertically. Keep your arms at your sides, crossed in front of you, or behind your head, but do NOT attempt use your arms to pull yourself up. Do not raise your feet off of the ground. Smoothly lower your body back to the floor. Repeat.

I like crunches better. I think sit-ups are for hip-flexor movement also.

Do some leg lifts to focus a little more on lower abs.

from my experiences, sit ups work the lower abs more than crunches. and of course crunches more the top than sit ups. but just from my experiences.

    here is the answer....

    !!Crunches!!

Traditional sit-ups emphasize sitting up rather than merely
pulling your sternum down to meet your pelvis. The psoas
muscles run from the lower back to the front of the thighs.
This muscle action is to pull the thighs closer to the torso.
This action is the major component of sitting up. Because
of this, when you are doing sit ups your psoas muscles are
the primary muscles being engaged and not your abdominal
exercises. So sit-ups are a pretty useless exercise if you want
to get your abs in shape. Instead, use crunches, because they
    directly work your abs.

How To Do Crucnes The Right Way

Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and your feet
together flat on the floor and about 10-15 inches from your
buttocks. Your hands should either be crossed on your chest,
by your side, or cupped behind your ears. Without moving your
lower body, curl your upper torso up and in toward your knees,
until your shoulder blades are as high off the ground as you can
get them. Only your shoulder blades should lift--not your back.
As you come to the highest point tighten and flex your abdominals
for a brief second. Slowly lower yourself back to the starting
    position. Repeat for reps.

    Smile Swiss ball crunches!

I love swiss ball crunches because I get a great range of motion in my abs and it keeps me off the floor. I can do 3 sets of 100 reps and it just feels great.
