Thats crap, bill gates, rupert murdoch, kerry packer, Richard branson, Donald trump, Warren buffet etc are all billionaires and they still wake up in the morning and get to work.

If you had a million dollars im sure you would try double it the triple it etc its human nature.

i would buy a lot of land with a small house on a it, and maybe a better car, then throw the rest into a large capital mutual fund

Anyway a million dollars is nothing nowadays, its cost $700,000 to get a decent home in Australia, then you want a car, then you have to maintain the home and car, bills,taxes,mistresses.

But that only happens if you spend your money for yourself. In my opinion $1,000,000 isnt enough to live it large. Buy some investment properties. With a million dollars you'll be making $1000 a week in rent easy.

Pay off student loans.

Then I'd split the remainder into thirds:

1/3 is put into the stock market
1/3 is money that I will spend on whatever
1/3 into mutual funds

I'm assuming a million after taxes... I would build businesses of different genres and find a competent financial advisor.

1. pay off parents for my uni fees
2. organize a few properties (mostly flats near the city) ~3
3. harvest money from flats
4. buy any car.

over here in sf, if you only have a million dollars, your middle class...regular homes over here average 600-700k...
