Need advice

I was arrested about a year and a half ago for unlawful possession (just a bull**** chapter of my life) and the police took 1500$ out of my car to hold as evidence. The charges are being dropped in January so should I be able to call the police department and recover my property? After all, if there's no charge, they can't hold money as evidence.

If you weren't charged for anything than you should be able to get the money back.

can you prove where the money comes from? i have a friend who's brother lets say has gotten in some similar trouble before and had around 2k taken as evidence from his home, well after everything was over (court) and he asked his lawyer about what should he do about that money, the lawyer advised him to just take the loss and be glad the issue was over. im not sure if the charges were dropped or he won the case, but he did get out with a clean slate.

You can file a petition to have a hearing to get it back. I'm surprised the cops reported it. They usually just split it up, that's why cops like to be narcos.

Worst comes to worst just say you won it at a casino/poker game or something.
