Is 30 - 35 too old to get married and have children?

I was wondering how old some of you were when you married and had children.

The reason I'm asking is because lately all my friends have been getting married and starting families and now that my best friend tells me tonight he just proposed so I'm starting to feel left behind. I really think that 24 is too young to have kids, a wife and all that responsibility. I was aiming for the 30 - 35 range because I work full time while going to school part-time and should graduate in 2008.

When I told some people this they said all the good girls are taken up by then and I would have to settle for the leftovers at the bar and pick over the chubbs at weight watchers.

So now I feel like I have to go out there andknock one over the head with a club and drag her home by the hair before its too late!

I think it would be good if you're married and start a family during mid 20s. That's the best time to start I think. 30s is kind of late. And yea, I think all the girls will be taken by that time. So hurry up man.

Have them when you are financially stable or ready I'd say.

Personally, I'd love to have my kids around 24-26 because I don't want to be some old hag while they are in their teens. I'd love to see them grow up and live longer.

On this same note, the only thing I can think of is to start going to churches and pick up an 18 y/o.... I dunno, christians seem to love giving thier blonde haired blue eyed girls over to men with money and a strong christian background. So all I need is money and a strong christian background...

I'm waiting until I'm 35-40 before I have kids. I wanna make sure I'm financially stable and at a good point in my life before I decide to have kids. I don't wanna have kids and then wonder how I'm gonna afford the things they need. That's irresponisible.

As of right now, I don't plan on getting married. Ever. You don't need a marriage liscense to say "I love you".

by then you'll probably be so impatient and set in your ways it will be difficult to adjust to having to take care of someone else.

alot of people try your same plan and end up old and bitter.

    take advantage of your youth.

it doesnt matter what age you are all that does matter is that when you do get married and have kids it is what YOU want and not something you feel pressured into. I think it is stupid to put an age limit on this stuff and personally im not bothered about having kids and if i was engaged it would be a very long engagement. Id hate to get to 30 with two kids and a husband then realise i dont want kids and marraige because there is no going back (with children anyway) id rather be certain it is what i want. Its not a necesity either it isnt something you have to do just because all your mates do.

I didn't wait quite that long but I did give it time before taking the plunge.
I was 26 when I got married and 29 when my first daughter was born.
I am glad I was a little older when my kids were born as I know now that if I had started early I would not have made such a good dad. I was nowhere near as responsible as I am now and I was a whole lot more selfish. I wasn't as financially secure as I had hoped but my kids were never left wanting anything.
I will say that kids will change your life. You entire world perspective changes(mine did anyway). Basically I grew up in many ways, but in some I became a bit more childlike as I am sure my ex will attest too.

    so so so true

You have to look at this way, if you have a kid at 35 do you want to be 50 with a teen running around the house? I was 18 when my oldest hit the scene and 23 when when my youngest showed up. I will be 40 when he grads and is off to college.
If you have girls...I have 2, they are much more work than boys....There is constant drama....Such and such is a bitch...bob broke up with me(the world is ending)ect.

Reading some of this is depressing to me in a weird way. I would like to think that 30 to 35 is not too late to get married and start a family. Otherwise, it would almost be too late for me. I don't even have a girlfriend. At the rate I'm going, I will probably never get married. If I turn out to be a lonely, bitter 40 something year old man, I'll ****ing shoot myself to put myself out of my misery.
But the solace lay beyond the darkness
In a land where light and life dwell
Yet soon will come death and the numbing fires
Only then will my mind lie to rest

For I am alone on this world
Enslaved and surrounded by the living dead
Yet still I stand tall as I bleed
Deep from within the cuts upon my skin

IMHO, 30 onward is a great age to start your marriage and family. why? u will need the 20s to figure out where and what u are going to do with your life and sometime, u need time to find urself. then u will put in time to establish your career. and whilst these are rolling in, your maturity will increase (hopefully), so by the time that one reach 30+, he will have both financial and mental maturity to think about settling down. it will not be wise should u submit to peer pressure and jump onto the bandwagon to get hitched.

uhh 30-35 is the perfect age for marriage.

i see guys at ages as low as 20-21 getting engaged, thats whats pathetic, not you, these early marriage only end in one way : divorce. Have fun seeing your happy friends divorced and broke 5-10 years from now.

Yup yup. Started seeing a girl at 21, engaged at 26, married at 27, divorced at 28.

7 years with her, and she walks not quite 1 year after marriage.

28 now, just divorced. No kids thank god. Should have waited. 30-35 seems like it's just around the corner.

Remember all you 18-20 year olds... 30 will be here before you can blink. I felt like I was 20 yesterday.

This is just a phase... My social group went through this as well... A bunch of couples thought it would be the grown up thing to do to get married in their early-mid 20's... And now out of 7 there's only one happy couple, and 6 divorce/seperations/bitterness...

For most people in this generation, they just can't handle what "Real Marriage" and starting a family is about, until a little later... They only realize that once the whole **** storm implodes...

Early 30's is a completely acceptable time to get married...
My parents had me at 38 and 31... My Dad being 38, he was a little too old for some of the teenage stuff, but not much...

The only problem with having kids later, is that you have less of them... 1 or 2...
And in a case like myself, as an only child, who now has elderly parents with failing health, is that now as I'm moving my life towards marriage and starting a family, I'm also having to take care of my elderly parents and their needs...
So it can be a bit overwhelming to the kid... But if a child is raised by mature people to be able to handle mature problems, he's got a better chance than to be raised by people playing a game of "Family" in between partying.

In short, you're on the right track bro... Trust your instincts and keep your head about you...

Just marry a girl 5 years younger than you. You're 30, played the field, had a good time. And she's still good prime beef at 25. Best of both worlds. I'd say wait a few years after marriage for kids. Need to secure the relationship.
5 years of working out and 50 more to go.

I got married when I was 34 and we just adopted our first child a couple months before I turned 40. If I had it to do over, I woul have loved to have been younger - not so set in my ways.

Thats exactly what I tell people and they think I'm crazy. Half of these people getting married will be divorced.

It's not too old to have children, but IMHO, it is too old for me. My mother was 18 when she had me, & I already think she's out of touch. 35 yrs old is almost twice that, & when your child is 18, you'll be 53 years old. I want to be a young mother.

Also, which this doesn't really matter much to YOU as a male, but women a designed to have children prior to age 28. Not having children prior to 28 increases risks of certain cancers. @ the rate I'm going, w/ my boyf needing to finish his masters, get a good job, & that whole marriage thing needed to be inputed, it's a wonder if I'll make that 28 yr deadline since I'll be 24 in February. I honestly wanted to be married & preggo by 25.

Just be aware that once a woman turns 35, she's medically considered a high risk pregnancy.

It might be a mistake to be under the impression that you can simply order up a kid when you're finally ready to do so. As a woman gets older, (35+) her chances of a successful pregnancy diminish considerably. Complications like preclampsia increase when older women get preganant. (Nothing like deciding on who's going to live, wife or baby).

So you hit 35 and say, "I'm ready for kids" You better hope you're wifes body still is, because if you have to use some kind of fertilization procedure, that can take years to finally pay off. Now you're looking at 38-40.

I know a few people who waited, and then couldn't when they were finally ready. With one couple, the girl developed depression due to it and their whole marriage, along with all their other relationships whent right down the sh!tter.

30 to 35 is actually the perfect age group, If you've done the right things in your life.. this will be a time where you will be financially stable and also mature enough to start a family without being 'too old'
