What exercises besides dips and declined bench can build your lower chest? Should you do declined dumbell exercises?

i would say the best feature, well i have quite a few, buyt a wide chest is something i am proud of. so here is my split and i recomend it greatly.

    inc bb
    dec db
    inc db
    flat db flies

that is the best order/exercise compilationi have ever made up. i use it and it is the best. i wouldn't want to ever change it. i will one day but i have been making great gains on it for some time. try it and you will love it. dec db is the best.

There is no lower chest. You have learned bb'ing rule #1.

There are only 2 chest muscle, pectoralis major and pectoralis minor.

why must some smart ass that knows you can't REALLY isolate a chest muscle on the lower side always come in?

bb rule #1. everyone knows that and know one likes to have to say it everytime. there is no point to your smart ass comment. to work the lower chest you aren't going to do incline bench smart guy.

    Exclamation

Wait, so you can't build your lower chest from a decline any more than a normal bench?

thats been an ongoing thing on this board for a while whether or not their are different parts to your chest and whether or not you can isolate a part of it better. Scientifically I have no Idea whether or not, but in my opinion yes you can hit certain parts of the chest harder with different angles. just look at a pic of franco columbu, his chest has a cut going right across the middle separating the top and bottom. Im sure Ill get flamed for this though

You can emphasize different parts of a muscle, but you really can't isolate anything. You are still exercising the muscle as a whole. I personally do decline DB press because I feel that it hit my pecs hard, and makes them grow. It may add some size to the lower portion of my pecs, it may not. But I know that it makes my chest as a whole grow, and my lower chest is part of my chest () so it grows too.

"just look at a pic of franco columbu, his chest has a cut going right across the middle separating the top and bottom"

That's genetic, it has to do with how and where the pec's are attached to bone. It's the same deal as why Ronnie Coleman has a wide space between his rectus abdominus (abs) and other have perfectly aligned 6-pack ... even though they all do the same exercises.

This is my favorite quote ever on this message board (and it's in this thread)

"i would say the best feature, well i have quite a few, buyt a wide chest is something i am proud of. so here is my split and i recomend it greatly."

Picture a slot machine. That's what I'm doing with my eyes. Good Lord.
"The difference between the champion and the challenger is that the champion ALWAYS gets up before the count of 10" -- Me

""Many individuals may be training hard but they aren't training smart. This is especially true of those who don't properly balance their training program with an equal amount of pushing and pulling movements and an emphasis on total-body development." "Maximum" Bob Whelan

To this I would add DIPS and weighted dips, over decline bp. Also decline flys will assist in development.

but if it works for some people all i can do is say "if it works for you and i am very skeptical"

i guess its different for everybody on how much their traps come into play but sometimes my traps hurt more from deadlifting then they do from shrugs, i guess its do to the tremendous amount of weight they need to help stabalize

For crying out loud, I am sick of this 'deadlifts don't build traps' bull****. It is not a direct trapezius exercise, but at the top of the motion there is a 'chest thrust' motion, which feels a bit like a shrug. Shrugs do build traps, therefore they can assist in the development. Its a bit like saying 'chins don't build the biceps' or 'benching won't build your triceps' - it is, and they are, compound movements, and consequently they will all help with various muscle groups. It isn't written anywhere, you just have to think about how the different muscle groups work whilst performing a lift. Now, get over it.

Shrugs do build traps, therefore they can assist in the development. Its a bit like saying 'chins don't build the biceps' or 'benching won't build your triceps' - it is, and they are, compound movements, and consequently they will all help with various muscle groups. do dips - they are better than decline bench because they involve moving the whole body and most importantly don't argue in the exercise section

why is it though D&G that they work it better, cause I always feel it more in the lower pces doing dips then decline bench. Its the same for pullups, I feel those more in my lats than pulldowns.

Probably has to do with natural range of motion.

so the more natural the motion the more the muscle fibers are effectively hit I would suppose.
