I have just moved from the States to Chelsea, nearby Earl's Court, and I am very much in need of a gym... a proper lifting gym, not a fitness club or anything of the sort. Ive searched quite incessantly online but cannot find much, and am hoping you guys can help me out.

Anywhere near Earls Court would suit me just fine, but I wouldn't mind it were somewhere off the District or Picadilly line either.

I lived in South Kensington last year, right next to Earls Court and Chelsea. There is a Soho Gym in Earls Court, not a bad place iirc but quite expensive like all the gyms around there. I searched and searched for months to find a decent gym in the area, but theyre all expensive chain-gyms tbh.

Thanks, yea Ive seen that one, its right next to the tube station and that little italian cafe. Ive never gone up to check it out though. How much did it run you per month? And were you limited to that one gym, or could you go to all the locations around?

At Hammersmith there's a REAL gym. It is opposite the New Charing Cross Hospital on Fulham Palace Road, between Parfrey Street and Rosedew Road. It is located in school grounds so it's shut during the day - doesn't open until 5PM after the kids have left. You wouldn't know it was there. You actually have to go IN through the school gates and to the hut/shed building that houses the gym.

The guys that use it rave about it and say that it's one of the last remaining 'spit and sawdust' gyms, having every item of weight lifting equipment that you could dream of.

Id like to know more about this place, if youve got more details. Hammersmith is real close. From your description it sounds like a hidden type of place, are there signs or whatnot?

How much does it cost? What are the hours? What type of memberships? etc etc...

I was never a memeber - ask them or look on the website for price details.

I went down to a community centre in Battersea, about 2 miles away from where I lived. There was basically a bar and some plates, and floor space. It was only open for a few hours a day but was quiet sometimes, and cheap.
