regarding putting oaks in the shake. Is there even any difference? I have plenty of time before making my morning shake, so I have no problem cooking oats if its better, or putting them in the blender raw if its better.
Any advice?

I've always done raw. I just put cooked oats in my shake for the first time a few days ago, and YUCK!!! It was all thick and chunky. I could barely get it down without gagging.
Quick oats mix up just fine in a regular blender, IMO. Steel-cut oats have double the nutritional density, but it's best to grind them in a coffee grinder before putting them in the shake; otherwise it will be very gritty and hard to drink.

Cook them
Cook the oats.
The starch is pretty difficult to digest without cooking.
I suspect that eating a large quantity of raw oats will cause you to have a lot of gas.
I'd cook them well.

I prefer cooked, definitely. Cup of oats, some skim milk, a bowl, and a 1:30 in the microwave... booya.
