    Thumbs down Tribulus and Strength Training Study

    The effects of Tribulus terrestris on body composition and exercise performance in resistance-trained males.

    The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the herbal preparation Tribulus terrestris (tribulus) on body composition and exercise performance in resistance-trained males.

    Fifteen subjects were randomly assigned to a placebo or tribulus (3.21 mg per kg body weight daily) group. Body weight, body composition, maximal strength, dietary intake, and mood states were determined before and after an 8-week exercise (periodized resistance training) and supplementation period.

    There were no changes in body weight, percentage fat, total body water, dietary intake, or mood states in either group. Muscle endurance (determined by the maximal number of repetitions at 100-200% of body weight) increased for the bench and leg press exercises in the placebo group (p <.05; bench press +/-28.4%, leg press +/-28.6%), while the tribulus terrestris group experienced an increase in leg press strength only .

    Supplementation with tribulus *does not* enhance body composition or exercise performance in resistance-trained males.

    while i haven't really ever noticed an increase in strength or lean mass supplementating with TT I have experienced and increase in libido after a week of supplementation (3 - 5 grams a day?)...still good for PCT imo...

    Libido increase seems to be the only thing it does.

    Unhappy terrestris not the bestest?

    yes. libido boost. also, i could swear my facial hair grows faster while i'm taking it. also, you know how people taking the estrogen blockers (like novedex XT) experience morning wood (good test) but get tired in the afternoon? well, i can take trib when i'm starting to feel like my energy is going down and it effectively re-energizes me. i think trib can be good for PCT and complements the estrogen blockers/test enhancers commonly used for PCT. i have used the generic NOW brand tribulus and they have consistent quality.

    But I have a friend who is making the best strength gains he has ever made on TT at 3g/day. He has run all the real stuff too and some ph's. His weight is 220@14% about 5'10".

    Just relaying som einfo. He even gave me some and I am taking it now, will report when I finish./

    Trib is only useful for peeps that have T levels that are below normal and even then the results will vary greatly.

    If a man has below normal T levels he would most likely get some hormone therapy going from his doctor anyway and not use the Trib.

    Its a waste of money for most ppl.

    maybe? i think i can easily get low on test. exercise is a major factor in how i feel the next morning/day. my body is all for conservation. i'm a hardgainer, ecto. it sure can effect me, emotionally, libido, facial hair growth rate. the five pounds i recently put on (2.5-4 weeks) was all because of simply eating a another meal (high in carbs) and including egg protein 40-80g a day with the carb meals. i do remember having some nice, consistent strength gains on the bench a few years ago when i upped the carbs and took trib (cycling).

    i think some people react to it stronger than others, and maybe it is the lower-test guys who benefit the most. i certainly seem to experience it rather strongly. i'm also hypersensitive to stimulants, without piracetam (but most certainly am boosted with piracetam especially with plenty of choline (such as egg yolks)). i mean i really go crazy on something like 4 ounces of regular coffee. seriously, freakin' crazy. i'm a lightweight in more ways than one (don't forget i'm the worst scum on the board).

    "The aphrodisiac herb Tribulus terrestris does not influence the androgen production in young men.

    OBJECTIVE: The aim of the current study is to investigate the influence of Tribulus terrestris extract on androgen metabolism in young males. DESIGN AND METHODS: Twenty-one healthy young 20-36 years old men with body weight ranging from 60 to 125 kg were randomly separated into three groups-two experimental (each n=7) and a control (placebo) one (n=7). The experimental groups were named TT1 and TT2 and the subjects were assigned to consume 20 and 10 mg/kg body weight per day of Tribulus terrestris extract, respectively, separated into three daily intakes for 4 weeks. Testosterone, androstenedione and luteinizing hormone levels in the serum were measured 24 h before supplementation (clear probe), and at 24, 72, 240, 408 and 576 h from the beginning of the supplementation. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between Tribulus terrestris supplemented groups and controls in the serum testosterone (TT1 (mean+/-S.D.: 15.75+/-1.75 nmol/l); TT2 (mean+/-S.D.: 16.32+/-1.57 nmol/l); controls (mean+/-S.D.: 17.74+/-1.09 nmol/l) (p>0.05)), androstenedione (TT1 (mean+/-S.D.: 1.927+/-0.126 ng/ml); TT2 (mean+/-S.D.: 2.026+/-0.256 ng/ml); controls (mean+/-S.D.: 1.952+/-0.236 ng/ml) (p>0.05)) or luteinizing hormone (TT1 (mean+/-S.D.: 4.662+/-0.274U/l); TT2 (mean+/-S.D.: 4.103+/-0.869U/l); controls (mean+/-S.D.: 4.170+/-0.406U/l) (p>0.05)) levels. All results were within the normal range.

    The findings in the current study anticipate that Tribulus terrestris steroid saponins possess neither direct nor indirect androgen-increasing properties. The study will be extended in the clarifying the probable mode of action of Tribulus terrestris steroid saponins."


    They do have some libido effects for some in studies, but not due to androgen effects in any study. The placebo effect, combined with consistent exercise-induced gains, is very powerful.

    Trib has never been proven in any study, not a single study, to do anything other than destroy the liver of sheep that ate it.

    I tried tribulus for the first time and have been very dissatisfied. I don't think it did anything at all. I can feel when my T levels are higher and when they dip. Occasionally, I felt it surge, but for the most part no. I will never buy it again.

    The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the herbal preparation Tribulus terrestris (tribulus) on body composition and exercise performance in resistance-trained males.

    Fifteen subjects were randomly assigned to a placebo or tribulus (3.21 mg per kg body weight daily) group. Body weight, body composition, maximal strength, dietary intake, and mood states were determined before and after an 8-week exercise (periodized resistance training) and supplementation period.

    There were no changes in body weight, percentage fat, total body water, dietary intake, or mood states in either group. Muscle endurance (determined by the maximal number of repetitions at 100-200% of body weight) increased for the bench and leg press exercises in the placebo group (p <.05; bench press +/-28.4%, leg press +/-28.6%), while the tribulus terrestris group experienced an increase in leg press strength only .

    Supplementation with tribulus *does not* enhance body composition or exercise performance in resistance-trained males.

    Just some thoughts. This is a very underdosed regimine. I am taking about 10X this (3g/day) and even though I am eating at a calorie deficit I am not losing weight, I AM getting leaner (ever so slightly).

    Remember 4-AD was "scientifically proven" not to be of any benefit either due to underdosing. Methyl-Dienn was also underdosed and thereby underestimated.

    Tribulus Research
    Studies have shown positive benefits of supplementing Tribulus Terrestris, and almost no adverse effects since it is from a natural plant source.

    • A study done with healthy individuals taking 750mg of Tribulus per day showed a 72% LH increase, and a 41% increase in testosterone.
    • In a study conducted with 20 males and females, 75% of the participants had increases endurance, 80% had increased libido and sexual performance, and 95% of the females reported no PMS symptoms.
    • A study conducted with 200 males suffering from impotence showed increase in LH and testosterone levels after supplementing Tribulus. The study also found an increase in sperm production.

    Studies have shown a better than 50% increase in testosterone levels when taking the Tribulus herb. Studies show that it works very well when stacked with DHEA and androstenedione. It increased testosterone levels in a different way, however, than either DHEA or andro do. Instead of being a testosterone precursor, it leads to the production of the luteinizing hormone (LH). When LH levels are increased, the natural production of testosterone also increases. LH is a hormone that also deals with sex drive. Tribulus terrestris increases sperm count as well as motility levels after taking it for 30 days. This is a good supplement for men and women to increase their sex drive. Most experts recommend experimenting with 750 to 1,250 mg per day, divided among meals. A significant benefit of Tribulus is the stimulation of hormone production to a balanced level, without over stimulating the secretion of hormones. Tribulus Terrestris works by stimulating the anterior pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH), which is responsible for stimulating the testes to produce testosterone.

    When scientists began studying the curative power of Tribulus, they discovered that it significantly elevates the level of several hormones: Testosterone; Luteinizing Hormone (LH is a gonad stimulating hormone produced by the pituitary gland), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Estradiol. A significant benefit of Tribulus is the stimulation of hormone production to a balanced level, without over stimulating the secretion of hormones. When 750 mg per day of Tribulus extract was given to a total of 212 men in open clinical trials, 85% had increased libido after 30 days, and 94% after 60 days. Thus, Tribulus unquestionably stimulated sexual desire. In another study, treatment with 750 mg per day for 60 days significantly increased sperm motility in 38 men with idiopathic oligospermia (low sperm count of unknown origin). In the same study, of 14 patients with reduced libido, 12 showed considerable improvement after 30 days (1500 mg/day), and one was slightly improved after 60 days' treatment. Libido was improved in 27 of 36 patients with chronic prostatitis. Patients who had suffered this condition for five years or more showed no improvement, yet in patients with shrunken testes and oligospermia, libido was apparently improved. A study involving healthy individuals taking 750 mg/day of tribulus terrestris evaluated hormonal responses and revealed LH increased in males from 14.38 ml/U/ml to 24.75 ml/U/ml (that s a 72% increase). The free testosterone in males went from 60 ng/dl to 84.5 ng/dl (an increase of 41%).

    Did they say what levels of protodioscin, furastanol saponins, and total saponins the trib used in the study contained? Probably not. My guess is they used a weak, low potency trib for the study if this is the outcome. I got a catalog from another company that touted AndroTest with high potency trib and bought a bottle. My strength and size gains are not just in my head, trust me and my guess is some company putting out one of those scam "wanna-b prohormone" supplements was behind this study to try to take over us die-hard tribulus fans. Screw this news, take it from real athletes that know their body and how it responds to supplements.

    Most of these studies are dosed wrong with the wrong extract for 2 short of time.

    hahaha, well tribulus can increase total test and LH, its just Trib also (in some) increases estrogen 6X more than it does test.
