Alternative to V-Diet

So last summer I did a V-diet all the way through with good results. However, I did notice that it screwed with my head. I had energy and all that but I had no motivation what so ever to study about half way through.

Also the V-diet isn't something you want to do past a month.

Well I wanted to give it another go but being in the last month of the semester there was no way I was going to jepordize my organic chem or physics class just to go on some extreme diet. I also created a 3 month plan to get me in shape for rock climbing. Now the question is, why not just eat healthy and normal with a calorie deficit. Well I would but living in a hotel room with a mini fridge and microwave I'm limited in what I can prepare and store.

So anyways,

This is what I came up with and it's working well for me so far.

Same 5 shakes except 1/2 skim milk 1/2 water
1 tablespoon of flax in each shake instead of two.
3 fish oil capsules per shake
up to a cup of oatmeal per day.

I don't have my fitday program on this computer but off the top of my head it works out to about 60/20/20 protein/carbs/fat. 1800-2000 calories (give or take)

I usually have the oatmeal if I'm craving anything but for the most part the cravings haven't been there at all. Mainly the oatmeal is work out related.

The first week went really smoothe and I haven't noticed any brain drain what so ever. Roughly 3 pounds down.

I also built in 1 free day where I get a free meal at a hospital I'm volunteering at 60 miles away, so breakfast, lunch, and dinner are off the plan but I try and keep it as healthy as possible.

Again, my goals this time around isn't to lose as much as I can in 28 days. They are more modest with my goal being to lose a lil under 1.5 pounds a week up to March.

I just needed something simple and cost effective which took the thought and logistics out of eating healthy.

I'm not keeping a log like I did for my V-Diet last august. Instead I'm incorporating a log into my daily blog over on myspace. If anyone is interested just pm me.

as long as you keep the same macros id assume it would still work. it may however be less effective. i dont think the v-diet was what caused the lack of motivation, i bet it was the extreme cal def and the low carb diet. good luck man

what caused the lack of motivation is your low carb diet. having too little carb in your diet will affect you serotonin levels. plus you will not get good results being on a low carb diet becasue the only weight your losing is water weight (1part carbohydrate = 3 part water) the fat will still be there. you need to have 50/30/20 carb/pro/fat to lose bodyfat. having high protein is over rated because you only need 0.7-1.0g of protein per pound of bodyweight.

of course the initial weight loss will be water, but it is ridiculous to say that you will not lose fat on a low carb diet.

either way you still need a moderate amount of carb. thats your body's primary source of energy

I agree with this guy. Ive tried the low carb diet and ended up not loseing any weight except for the water weight and I felt like **** all the time. When I switched it up to higher carbs I felt better and started losing the fat.

I tailored this to suit my own unique circumstances. I liked the simplicity of the velocity diet but not the side effects or the short term nature of it.

I fully realized that it was the low carbs causing the brain drain so by adding the skim milk and oatmeal it upped it enough to the point where I can still rock the books as well as meat my fitness goals without needing a full fridge/stove/sink which I don't have in a hotel room.

I also realize that this is not doing the same thing to my body as the V-diet. But, as I said my goals this time around are a much more modest 1-2 pounds a week.

If I had the full fridge, stove, sink, etc that a normal living situation provides my freezer would be stock full of chicken breasts and the like. I can't do that though and this keeps things simple

unless you are in ketosis. but either way consider yourself lucky as many people cannot lose weight without dropping their carbs.
