No water intake for... 5 days?
Anyone have a good article or thread I can read on this topic. I have a competition going and for the last 5 days I would like to lose a little water weight before hand and have my veins pretty much out there. I got a body impedance test and I have 55 liters total. I would of course take in a gallon a day for a couple weeks beforehand and then just quit for a good 4 or 5 days. I would just like to learn more about this, no need for flaming guys.
Thanks in advanced,
Deric

Drink 3 litres of water each day and up your sodium (salt) intake for 5 days straight then the last 3-4 days before the contest cut out ALL sodium but do not stop drinking 3 litres of water each day.
The more water you drink the less you will retain.
Also do not use any diuretics like caffeine. Hydroxycut/lipo-6/hot rocks etc may also help.

To cut? Its a friendly competition but i am currently losing an average of 2lbs a week, max 3. I am good about my diet and solid on my workouts although i over train a lot.
I am thinking 15lbs in 2 months.

Yeah I know but I am also on the Keto diet for this reason, people have had great results with this and retaining their mass so i figured i would attempt it instead of my normal no carb diet. I am lifting heavy and doing HIIT twice a week with cardio 2 other days.
My diet is very good as well, all clean

or you could do the smart thing and not change your water intake at all. at 8% it wont change anything. when people say "youre holding water" at a contest, its means youre not cut enough. thats due to fat, not water. not drinking water for 4 or 5 days is probably the worst thing you could do, short of not drinking water for 6 days and so on.
water is important for a few reason: one it clings to glycogen so it will make muscles look fuller. it will increase vascularity because its needed for fluid balance. you could be hospitalized if you dont drink anything for that long.

hmm noted, this of course was only an idea. I have head people decreasing their water intake before a contest and it helps with vascularity but maybe this is a wrong conception all by itself. josh' idea any good? Or would it just be best not to worry about my water intake and leave it be?

it can have a small effect if youre really low bf%, but just under 10% wont help. the concept is correct, but it is so easy to screw up and make things much worse than any small benefit you would get otherwise. imho: safest, easiest, and most beneficial would be to keep the water intake the same. if you put your focus on to losing that fat, that will be much better.

dont know about research on this but ill lay out some risks. since fluid balance is a very important thing for the body, upsetting it can have very negative effects. in order to play with that balance and get a benefit, it takes some very fine tuning and practice to know how you respond to that kind of thing. since you havent done it before theres a greater chance you wouldnt get it down the way you wanted for the best results. the biggest downside is that you dont get it right and you look really flat with no veins at all.

thanks. if you want to play around with this at a later point, there are a few articles on the main page that could give you a more in-depth view. i still dont think its worth the effort, but im also not the one doing it.
best of luck.

Are you suggesting not to drink water for 4-5 days? or did i misread that?
last time i checked, you can only last for 3 days without water.

Good decision.
I was about to call you an idiot for thinking it would be sane and healthy to go 5 days without liquid.
As everyone else said - watch your sodium intake, INCREASE YOUR WATER CONSUMPTION FOR A WHILE, and then in the very last stages you should be ok to cut water for a bit. Morning of, for example.

More than 3 days without fluid will probably kill you, especially if the foods you're eating during that time don't have a lot of water in them.
I don't think a normal human being can pull it off for more than 2 days, especially if water is available to them. After 2 days without access to water, you pretty much have to resort to drinking your own piss to stay alive until you have access to fluids again.
