It works well, only some slight discomfort if my arm shifts too much but no pain at all just sitting around and stuff. I moved my arm today (just up and down) and moved my hand so my elbow doesn't lock up (doc's orders of course) and no pain. Good stuff, let me know how your appointment goes.

Big Al, Good news for me the doc said I am ok. I just have to push through the pain I was having. He said i should have been training through it before but with out the supervision of being in rehab I thought I was doing damage and it was actually a necassary pain not a sign of damage. Stopping for the period I did set me back a little. I will be working dilligently through it now to get where I need to be. Work that therapy and keep in touch with your doc as much as possible.

KISS! I had all their albums growing up. I'd sit and stare at that cover art and listen to Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud over and over.

Yeah KISS is cool, been listening since I can remember. Shoulder is getting better, less pain, can move it a little more. Dr. appointment is 1/17. I'll know then a little more and should be starting therapy soon. He told my wife he'd get me started right away.

Hey guys, I've been busy the last couple days, but I'm glad to see everybody's surgery went well and best of luck to all of you in your recoveries!

I went to the doctor today and I'm signed up for February 18th for my surgery. He said it should take 3 months until I'm not feeling it anymore, so we'll see how it goes. 1 week in a sling, 4-5 weeks rehab, 3 months total til recovery, I can't wait.

    Thumbs up Rehab

Went to see Doc today. No full tear, He said they did A TON of shaving and tear should heal itself up. Going to start rehab on Mon 21st. Hopefully we're on the right track and this will be over soon.Anyone who went through re-hab, how did it go, what should I expect. He said I should be good in about 2 months....

The way he put it. A small tear in the rotator cuff, not all the way through. "A ton of damge in there" is what he said. I guess it was just alot of inflammation. Basically what they did was clean it all up by shaving bone and cartiledge so there will be no more rubbing, which is causing most of the pain, the tear was cleaned up, the frayed parts, and it should heal itself since it is not all the way through. Thats about it. all I know is it hurts, and hopefully when I'm done, it won't hurt no more.

My doc said I have 2 more weeks in a sling. Doesn't that seem a bit premature? I had a labral tear, 2 anchors required.

My Doc was hoping that is how mine was, he told me I would be good to go if I had your scenario. So that is really great for you, I think you will probably have a speedier recovery than most here with that good news. Make sure when you feel like you are getting all your range of motion back to keep moving it all the time in ways you normally dont, but may have to. I am fighting with breaking down some scar tissue now due to getting "comfortable" in my range of movement and stopping some of the more irregular movements. So I could spend more time on lifting. I have lost some range of motion now, and I have to go to a massage therapist soon to have them break through the scar tissue. OOOOH that is gonna SUCK! LOL School of hard knocks is where I do most of my learning anyway. I am on my way to a Masters from there. I try to keep everyone else out of the school though by sharing painful lessons with me as the proxy.

Pay special attention to AlSwearengen's words that it being sore afterwards is good, I thought it was a bad thing and that is part of the reason I have this scar tissue problem now too. I just stopped afraid I may damage something.

Anyway congrats on it only needing cleaned up. You are lucky and will be pounding it out in no time.

minimum i have seen is 4 weeks for any tear of any size that was repaired. im unsure where you are compared to that. my PT tells me we are going to go slower than what the Doc said and i agree. after surgery we are in the hands of our PT's and mine is one of the best i have found and if he tells me to work with the sling a few more weeks just to make sure things work out i will do just that.

i will probably be 6 weeks in a sling just to make sure all is good, with me slowly weaning out of it for my last 2 weeks.

Yeah real glad the tear was'nt all the way through. Is'nt it funny how we all pretty much said or are saying Once the doc gets in there and looks we'll know whats up. You just think they'd be able to know what was wrong without cutting us.... just a thought

Check this out, seemes pretty informative to me....

    Red face Rehab Has Begun

Started rehab on Monday. They did all these tests to check range of motion, man that sucked. Also went on Wed. Going 2 days a week, they gave me these stretches to do at home, they say you're not supposed to feel any pain, what if there is always pain. well just if there is extra pain. Ummmm OK. So, with the Ice and stuff its going ok, just sore. Looking forward to getting this over with, but must be patient...... Good luck to all you guys....

I loved the ice at the end of each session! I hated it on the rare occasion when they didn't offer it. I'm pretty sure I even asked for it sheepishly the one time they didn't.

"Uh, can I get the ice?"

They had a shoulder sling with ice packs and then they had this other machine that blew cold air in a vest thing that fit over your shoulder. The vest thing was pretty damn cool. Uh, no pun intended.

So how's your pain on a scale of, say, 1 to 10 with ten being "Son of a..." and 1 being no pain? I can still feel a difference between my left and right shoulder. Duh, my right shoulder is NOT "right." GRRR! But it's doing okay.

Two days a week, eh? Did they give you bands for use at home? When do you go? Wednesdays and Fridays (the 18th was a Fri.)? Duh. Wait, you said Monday. Monday and Wednesdays!

Man, I hope the rehabbing goes really well for you, Al.
