I've read several threads about the benefits of peanut butter. Ran out and bought some nautral peanut butter right afterwards too.
But are there benefits that peanut butter has that regular peanuts don't? I can throw some peanuts in a ziplock bag and carry that easier than peanut butter.

I've heard that anything "hydrogenated" is really bad because it just adds saturated fats...but it tastes sooo good!
After this container I'll probably pick up the natural stuff....I don't want to be putting on any unnecessary fat. Even though this has added sugar, it isn't much. Here are the nutrient facts:
Serving Size: 2 tbsp
Calories 190 Calories from Fat 140
Total Fat 17g
Sat. Fat 3.5 g
Trans Fat 0 g
Cholesterol 0 mg
Sodium 140 mg
Total Carbs 6 g
Dietary Fiber 2 g
Sugars 3 g
Protein 7 g
So it's not all that bad.

i've never heard of "natural" peanut butter till i started visiting this site. I am all about improving my diet, so where do i get "natty pb?" grocery store? online? and what are the differences between the nutrition labels? JSplice was nice enough to provide the Peter Pan contents (which is exactly what i currently purchase. thanks, Jsplice). Could someone please list the facts on natty?

I don't get it. I'd bet there's really NO discernable difference between whole peanuts and (natural) peanut butter. Each is roasted, sometimes salted. Only difference with the butter is it's ground and bottled. Considering that, and that some people grind their own peanut butter, some people take this "whole food" thing way to far. Using the shake-steak comparison with peanuts and peanut butter is pretty ignorant IMO.
So long as the PB is made of only "peanuts, (maybe) salt" then eat up. Or if you like peanuts, go for them. NO nutritional difference considering they're the same thing. Peanut butter sandwiches are good, and so is GORP. Try both!

.....................just so ya know There may be better, but Kroger's is dirt cheap (for nat pb)..... I've made my own from time to time, but our Magic Bullet tends to "strain" a bit when grinding/mixing it... (thinking 'bout mixing in a tablespoon or so of olive oil to "thin" it a bit....can't hurt, eh ???)

Guys, thanks for the posts. Now I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Looks like the natty (what a horrible name. I just hate saying it) has one gram less carbs, and one gram more protein. I'll stick with Peter Pan. It tastes good and its not a pain in the arse.

Partially Hydrogenated Oils are known as trans fat, which are worse than saturated fats. Check Link.
