Anyone else think Gustavo should have taken second behind Ronnie?
if you were at the show then you know what i mean. gustavo nailed it and looked better then jay. for the most part alot of the crowd felt so as well. people were pissed he got third. Jay made improvments but not enough to take second over gustavo, its almost like he gets second because of his hype.

Yes I agree....somewhat. Jay has paid his dues, and he made some rather large improvements this year, and I feel Ronnie took two steps back. I would rather have seen him come in at 300 or 305. But Gustavo has few weaknesses, and those he does have he did a very good job at downplaying them and hiding them. I think that's what people saw, BUT he still wasn't quite the best physique up there.

I disagree, although I definately think Gustavo deserved a top 3 finish and made some serious improvements in reducing his waist while maintaining that great size, taper, and conditioning. However, he lacks overall size compared to Ronnie and Jay, as well as quad separation and conditioning from the back. That said, I think he is now officially a force in the IFBB, although Ronnie and Jay are on another level that Gustavo has yet to reach.

If Ronnie retires and Gustavo wins the Olympia, Jay Cutler will quit Pro bodybuilding cause history tells us that Mr. Os reign for some years and Jay would never want to be an all time second.

Gustavo definitely got ripped off. He brought his waist down and kept his overall size. Not as big as ronnie or jay but I like his physique better myself.

Gustavo has a way better physique than Cutler. He has more striations and splits. Jay just looks like a big flat hunk of meat(like kovacs) compared to him. I mean he looks fuller than jay also. Also he is probably carrying more muscle on him since he has a smaller bone frame even though he weighs less. He blows Jay away in teams of symmetry.

So true. Cutler can pack on mass, but he has virtually no vascularity to speak of, and his cuts are pretty hard to come by. Although he was at his best ever this year, he had to prepare all year for it, while Gustavo competed in other competitions if I'm not mistaken.
At 5'8" and 250lbs Gustavo is about as big as someone of his frame can possibly get; he's huge. And he's a good sport, doesn't bitch and moan because Cutler undeservedly took his spot again this year.

I was there, and I agree: Gus should have taken second. And believe it or not, Branch Warren should have taken third. He got more respect from the crowd than probably anybody else the whole night. The first guy to hit the truly "grainy" look since Dorian, in my opinion. Watch out for him in the future.

I believe Gustavo had a legitimate shot at the Olympia crown, but obviously Ronnie wasn't going to lose. With that said, Gustavo looked way better than Cutler. Cutler should be grateful that they didn't place him 3rd. I could see Jay now, probably retiring from bodybuilding if Gustavo would have beat him. And Cutler got a gift with that freakiest wheels award. That award was supposedly judged on just legs, and if I recall there were some other bobybuilders there with bigger and freakier legs than him. This was my first time watching a live bodybuilding event and I can see why there are so many people complaining about IFBB. So many of those placings were awful and the judging was absolutely horrific, especially in the challenge round.

Yeah i was looking for gustavo's chest, but then i couldn't find it, i really dont see how you can say that jay has no separation, did you look at his quads and calves or did you decide those dont count??? Where exactly were the striations in Gustavo's quads, cus I mean jay had them???

I'll tell you this, Cutler fans have been bitching about Jay this year and, even more incomprehensibly, last year. Yet this is the second year in a row that Cutler, in my opinion, received a 2nd place gift. I thought Gustavo was 2nd this year and last year i thought Jay came 4th behind Coleman, Dexter, and Gustavo.
A few of my friends shared the same feeling. However, i became more confident of my opinion, when on the bodybuildingweekly show a few months ago, BOTH Bob Chic and Kamali thought that Jay should have been 4th last year. Hell, Bob went as far as saying maybe even 5th behind Ruhl. ouch!

The judge's most blatant gift-giving was handing the Arnold Classic to Jay in 2004 instead of Chris Cormier. Even his tan was off that time, he looked like crap.

I agree with what was already posted, Gustavo was dialed in and definetly had Jay and Ronnie beat. But it's all about politics. I agree he will win the Mr.O in the future, and a lot sooner than jay will.

Same ol' judging
I DEFINETELY think that Gustavo should have won, however EVERYBODY knows that the reigning olympia champ ALWAYS has to win. Coleman and Cutler are bigger, that's it. Cutler had no lines at all he just looked big and did improve his back thickness, Coleman was huge as usual, but always an immense stomach with distorted abs. Gustavo was smaller than them, like almost everybody is, but had better muscle quality, proportion, separation and conditioning. Also, you have to admit that Coleman and Cutler are very disrespectful and arrogant towards their fellow competitors, only whining and thinking that they are a work of art. I thought the IFBB said that they would definetely look up to better aesthetics, what happened then? Its obvious that the winner did win only because of fame, that's it.

yup i was there too, cormier definitely should have won, and i was rooting for cutler. the audience pretty much booed when they announced cormier second. And yes i agree with the threadstarter that gustavo should have got 2nd, he looked awesome.
