How do I motivate my family to exercise and be healthy?
Some of my family members really need exercise. They are in their early 50s, overweight and out of shape. It is important to me that they turn themselves around because I love them and want them to live a long time. I want to motivate and encourage them to start living healthy and exercising, without being nagging or a pain.
Anyone have suggestions on how to do this?

Basically set an example. That's the only thing I'd have thought you could do.
The only way someone is going to want to change is if THEY make that decision. You mentioning it will only make their resolve that much stronger, so they only thing to do is leave them be, just know you're there for them.
I have the same thing with my family. My dad is very underweight, having just been diagnosed with a serious illness, but my mum, sister and brother all have major issues with food. They won't listen, however nice I'm being, but hopefully one day, they'll ask for my help, and I'll be there.
It's all I can do, though it drives me nuts.

Yea, I use myself as an example. My brother or parents cant lift something or do something, and when I do it, it's incredibly easy to me. So they always compliment how strong im getting, but it only seemed to make my mom eat more healthy, not my dad or brother.....=(
I try to talk them into it, but I guess everyone has to make a choice someday in life.

I recently started to work out and TOTALLY changed my physique. My mom has started eating healthy and riding the exercise bike, and my dad has started to work out too. Dad still eats like a pig, but he's coming around. Just give them a good example (yourself), and go from there.

Start eating fast food like crazy. Die of a heart attack. Set an example.

i have this EXACT same problem, my dad/stepmom and all of my siblings need to eat healthier and workout, i actually bought my sister a gym pass (she is taking over the payments, i just paid activation and first month)...funniest thing about it all is that my dad has a gym in his basement.
my real mom just ran a marathon though, we motivate eachother
