Weighing Meat?

If I'm trying to figure out how many calories a serving of meat has, do I take the weight before or after its cook?

For example I bought a 1.49lb sirloin steak before it's cooked, and when I weighed it after I broiled it weighed less than 4 oz.

I'm not sure if my scale is accurate. Even still I'm not sure if I'm suppose to take the raw weight or cooked?

Also what type of scale would anyone recommend and what price range would I be looking towards?

Thanks

I weight my chicken, and other meats raw. A digital scale is better because is more accurate.
