Refeed vs. Cheat Meal
I've been cutting for a little while now, and I have set aside a day at the end of every week where I eat at maintenance, or slightly above. Some people claim that they eat 6000+ calories on their 'refeed', to boost leptin and such.
My question is, what is a reasonable caloric consumption to boost leptin, but limit fat gain?
John Berardi's diet (the one I am mirroring) has a 13 day clean diet, then an all out cheat on the last day of every 2 week period. Instead of this, I'm eating close to maintenance at the end of every week, with no specific macro partitioning other than the underlying goal to limit insulin output for the day.

Cheat meal is more a psychological thing than anything else.
Refeed is to "confuse" your bodies caloric intake so you continue to lose fat.

Leptin is barely effected by a caloric increase in one day. Not only that, but leptin is not all that it is touted to be.

I disagree. Yes, it effects people differently, like DJohnson for example, leptin is essential for a steady loss of fat for an extended period of time. Whether a one day refeed is going to effect it, I doubt it.

I eat about 4000 to 5500 calories every Sunday, lol. Maybe not ideal, but I enjoy it.

I'm assuming you're arguing with the latter part of my quote. Truly is an insight on the "clockworks" of leptin and its functions. Further more, Increasing such a hormone (Leptin) decreases T3/T4 hormones from the thyroid gland, and has a negating cross-effect upon testosterone in the blood stream. . Perhaps you should read this...

As said, this is a rather grim view upon the subject, but nonetheless it provides a view point which most seem to over look.

Not discrediting you, but without any references in that article, it's just an opinion. What we at bodybuilding.com call, "Broscience."
As I mentioned in a previous thread, we are currently discussing metabolic effects of different factors. I have texts that say and prove that leptin is essential in fat loss.

no doubt it's essential in fatloss, but what i am arguing is the increase of it. The body likes an equilibrium, hence homeostasis, and with the increase in leptin, the body seems to decrease other factors to equal itself out.
Plus, he does quote the studies he gets the information from such as: (Ahima et al, 2000 and Korbonits et al, 2001), (Rubin et al, 2003), (Dressel et al, 2003), (Huso et al, 2002), (Higaki et al, 1999 and Doi et al, 2003), (Doi et al, 2003), (Bogan et al, 2001). etc. etc.
Look again at his credentials as well, Big Cat knows he's stuff (at least it appears that way). With this in mind, re-consider the "bro-science" tag you've charged me with
