I just read Bob's article in the front of the new Flex. He was talking about how when the UFC first started it was pretty much just backyard brawls and how its such a huge industry now. The promoters let you get to know the guys competing on more of a personal level. They have more fans and more loyal fans because the people get a better sense of who they are cheering for. One bodybuilder that I admire very much is Mark Dugdale. He is a sucessful buisnessman outside of just bodybuilding, has a wife and children and still has time to be a top pro. To me that is admirable. Dareem Charles is very much the same and there is a story on him in the new Flex. I never really cared too much about Chris Cook (I never disliked him) I just never really knew anything about him until I read an article about him a while back. After hearing of all the things that he went through and overcame in his life I would now consider myself a "fan" of his. The magazines need to print more articles to let you get to know the different competitors instead of so many ads. I just wanted to say that I agree with the article and wanted to see what some other people had to say about it.

Bob says that the "fans" want the drug induced freaks. What fans??? Pro bbing hasn't grown at all in the past thirty years. Matter of fact, it has declined in that span, even with more and more drug abuse. Then, he says "bbing will never be popular", well people told Bill France that Nascar would always be a backwoods sport of Dixie. Now NASCAR is only surpassed by the NFL.

if bbing wants true mainstream acceptance and fans it can A:have the ifbb completely change, and have a few years of darkness when half the pros quit and half the fans leave, and then try to bring it to the mainstream light or B: get a whole new federation started by an already well off corporation with the right marketing and be diuretic and steroid free and more mainstream friendly

The fact remains, pro bbing has been LOSING popularity in the past decades. Now the only ones who follow it are insecure high school freshman and gay men with a muscle fetish. Some fan base you got there Bob. Everyone knows that the results are fixed in order for somebody in the supp or rag industry to make more money. Factor in the fact that one NEEDS to abuse drugs to get these physiques and the fact that these guys aren't nearly as strong as we're lead to believe, along with the use of recreational drugs and gay for pay, The WWE has more credibility as "sport".

Secondly, if the results were fixed for the supp industry to make even more money, then you'd have Muscle Tech athletes winning the O...and you don't.
Thirdly, these guys are pretty damn strong... you think Ronnie ain't as strong as we're led to believe? Just watch one of his vids...same with Johnnie Jackson and a load of others...Branch Warren, Ruhl etc are definitely as strong as we're led to believe.
4thly, not every single Pro bodybuilder is involved in "gay for pay" in order to get their drugs or whatever else. There are some, but not all do this....so don't make it seem that way.
5thly, the WWE is a joke. period. I wouldn't pay any amount of money to go see that rehearsed scripted bull****.
6thly, yah of course you need drugs to get the physique as big as the pros, but what, in the WWE you don't? Those guys are drugging it up just as bad....so what's your point?Last edited by Todd69; 10-14-2005 at 11:02 AM.
