Any books/movies like "Into the wild"
By that I mean, any books that tell a story about someone who just leaves everything behind and pursues whatever the hell is that they want to do(The Alchemist http://www.amazon.com/Alchemist-Plus...7342192&sr=8-1 is also like that).

The Climb by Anatoly Buvreev. It's about climbing Mt Everest. It really captures the dangers of climbing Everest. Outstanding adventure and all true.
Another is Bravo Two Zero. About a Brithish SAS squad that gets spotted way behind enemy lines in Iraq during the Gulf War. Incredible adventure tale.

Should definitely watch Alone in the Wilderness, which is the documentary about the same guy. The guy is truly alpha, was still living in the wilderness alone in his 80's still doing work most misc. members would fail at.

Think thats by Gary Paulson.
I actually went to school with Shackeltons nieces or great-nieces/grandchildren. They we're twins.
On The Road by Jack Kerouac is kinda what your looking for. Traveling the country, experiencing life, meeting crazy people.

Love this film! Will read the book after I've finished College.
In terms of books similar, i really recommend 'On The Road' by Jack Kerouac. Very good read.

'Grizzly Man' -> reps for streams or torrents
There have been a lot of road movies about leaving everything behind, but not based on real events like 'into the wild' that's what makes that movie/book so powerful the fact that is real
I'm interested in survivalists and stuff like that I might suggest you check a BBC reality show (wait!) where they had 30 people living in an isolated island off the coast of england
also castaway with forrest gump ain't bad

You should read he true story about Patrick Leigh Fermor. He decided at just 18, to walk the length of Europe, from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople. Leigh Fermor set off on 8 December 1933, when Hitler had recently come to power in Germany, with a few clothes, the Oxford Book of English Verse and a volume of Horace's Odes. He slept in barns and shepherds' huts, but also in the country houses of Central Europe with the landed gentry and aristocracy. Along the journey he listened to the many stories and dialects he came across. Two of his subsequent travel books, A Time of Gifts and Between the Woods and the Water, detail this journey and, as they were written decades later, benefit from his scholarly learning, giving a wealth of historical, geographical, linguistic and anthropological information as the narrative proceeds.
When WW2 broke out:
He joined the Irish Guards, but due to his knowledge of Greek he was commissioned in the General List and became a liaison officer in Albania and fought in Greece and Crete. During the German occupation he returned to Crete three times, once by parachute. He was one of a small number of Special Operations Executive officers posted to organise the island's resistance to German occupation. Disguised as a shepherd, he lived for over two years in the mountains and led the party that captured and evacuated the German Commander, General Heinrich Kreipe, in 1944.

Reading his books now.
