i have very thin wrists.. and i need to grow them a bit thicker...

I wouldn't know. All I can think of is work out your forearms more. The wrist doesn't really have any muscle in it.. it's bones and tendins. So basically, there is nothing you can do about it, I would think, unless you put on fat. Even then I've seen some "fat" people with skinny wrists.

I would worry about other parts of the body.

    deeyala,

do you want bigger wrists or stronger wrists? I also have very thin wrists, but I do wrist curls for my forearms and it has definitely increased my strength. You can also use one of those things you squeeze to improve your grip (i forget what they're called). Use it at work or while driving. It works wonders.

    no i want bigger wrists...

the circumfrence of my wrists is a bit less than 5". and i am 5 feet 9 (ie by no means that petite,) and apart from my wrists my bone structure is quite large .. they look soooooo fragile and out of proportion..

The hand is a really remarkable piece of engineering. As far as joints go, your wrist is pretty flexible, but you can still get a great deal of strength into your wrists and fingers. The way this is accomplished is that the muscle bellies for all the muscles that move your wrist and most of the ones that move your fingers (the strong ones) are located close to the elbow. Then there is a long tendon going to the insertion on the hand or finger. It's all about mechanical advantage. It is one of the reasons that short people can build bigger calves and forearms, since they have less mechanical advantage (shorter tendons) the muscle has to compensate by growing to handle the difference.

Bottom line is that There aren't a whole lot of muscle bellies in the wrist area to get that bigger. The only muscles I can think of off hand that are right there are the Pronator Quadratus on the palmar side and Abductor Pollicis Longus, Extensor Pollicis Longus and Brevis on the dorsal side. Needless to day these muscles are not used in heavy lifts and are for control more than strength, they will likely never get huge or anything.

The "rounding out" you are getting is probably the most you will get out of working muscles in this area, as it is, you will probably just need to accept that part of your body for being the way it is. There is nothing wrong with thin wrists.

Body building is about making the most of your body, skinny wrists and all.

The most effective way to get bigger/stronger wrists/forarms is grippers, levering, and thick bar.

I typed a long explanation of how to do these things however when i tried to post it erased it so. If you are interested in learning about these things look it up on google or pm me.

www.ironmind.com sells grippers aswell as http://www.fractionalplates.com/ for an adjustable gripper. You can do levering stuff with items that you have at home already same with thickbar stuff just wrap a towel around a normal dumbell/barbell.

you should be able to find grip equipment that will work for you.

    Exclamation Help Guys!?????

i am a bodybuilder who has a full chest good back muscles , great abbs big tricpes and bisceps a great firm ass lol and super strong legs, but theirs a downfall! = ( my wrists ), i dont wont to show them becuase it would show that i am weak to my freinds etc if anyw1 gets me?

so i was wondering becuase i already have massive rock hard forearms and im not generally skinny although i dont have a lot of fat on me but instead muscle, no matter how much i eat fat wont go to my wrists!

i have heard of fat injection for the lips & ass, BUT what about the wrists? is this obserd? becuase i dont think it would do any harm considering it would be my own fat preferably extracted from the anal region lol

is it a possiblilty that is offerd from surgueons/doctors?

if anyone knows about this or has heard of someone getting it done then please tell me whatever you know and your personall opinions.?

you should be loving ur skinny wrists....increase ur forearm size a bit and the illusion will make ur forearms look more impressive......use the skinny wrists as an advantage not a crutch.......skinny ankles will do the same for calves.....

You probably look fine and it is normal for a bodybuilder to get very focused on a particular bodypart from time to time. This is good if it prompts you to work your forearms which will look nice with your wrists being small. But it would be bad if it took focus off your work out. Keep a balance and you`ll find balance in your routines and the body will follow.

I've got the same as you- my bone structure is Hyooge compared to my wrists-- I need to put wrist curls into my WO, but the idea makes me giggle a bit... weak wrists, and i feel it when I do concentration curls-- I'd probably be able to curl more if I strengthened them...

I am not sure you can "grow" your wrists, but you can strengthen the tendons and surrounding joints and forearms. I am not a tiny girl- but I have very small wrists and ankles so I have to do forearm rolls and alot of calf exercises to strengthen my wrists and ankles. Has really helped me with typing too.

and everyone, thanks for bringing that thread back from the dead..
It was a year ago and it's pretty motivating to realize the progress i made ever since..
Before this thread i wasn't doing any forearm excercises so i started doing some (actually lots and i have my dumbell on my desk- and actually do wrist curls while studying ) and now my wrists are 0.3 cm thicker...

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

HE HE HE.. Guess, that's as thick as they'd grow- but on the plus side i, now have lovely forearms ..

    You guys are super...!

and LOOOOOOOOOOL @ the wristbands, Leila

Changing something that shouldn't be altered like that can hinder wrist function... and thus affect your ability to work out and grip, write, type, and other daily activities... long term effects can include tendonitis and carpal tunnel. The body parts you already have is what works best with the rest of your body. Not worth the vanity. You never know... 10 years from now, the "trend" would be thin wrists, and if you're a trend follower, you'd be regretting it all over again.

    holy old threads, batman!

anyways, I have small wrists too. And as some people here have mentioned, i've been told to take advantage of them. I have small ankles as well.

BUT on the flip side, i'm 5'4 with 9 1/2 feet and tiny ankles...which makes it hell to find cute knee-high boots that FIT. with my short height, tiny ankles and big feet, i have this "the minnie mouse effect" going on.

Luckily, i have mastered the art of illusion...

I have tiny wrists.....my wrists "give out" before anything when doing upper body exercises. I try to strengthen them (ie: doin little wrists curls) Not helping much though.

they do take plenty of time..
Now thinking back, i don't even recall that mcuh strength gain with those 0.3 cm gain (ahhh.. i am very proud of those 3 mm ), but now i notice that i can sustain dumbells for a longer time.. Usually my wrists used to give out in the middle of bicpes curls so i always settled for weights lighter than my biceps can curl, because of my wrists..

Good luck with yours. Mine are still skinny, Guess i need to work much more on them , but they're a bit stronger..

Ps: i have a 20lbs dumbell, 2 hand -grips on my desk and i now do wrist excersices all the time

Now i am searching for similar ecercises for my ankles

cant change wrist size, but getting a massive forearm with small wrists will make wrists look more small, though i doubt youd get really massive forearms, i find they are really hard to get bigger, i naturally have kinda big wrists, theyre 7-8"
