Why do a strict 2-3 induction phase if you're already in ketosis?
I apologize if this has been covered, but I can't find the answer online..
I ask because I had a bit of a cheat the other night.. not on carbs but had some alcohol.
Anywho, I'm still trying to understand the science behind keto.
Another related question: I read that ketosis is catabolic but I've also read the opposite..? Not sure what to make of that. After we do our carb-ups, it looks like we want our body to go back into ketosis ASAP, yet sometimes it takes up to a few days to do that? Are we still making that "metabolic shift" if that's the case?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand your question. As far as I'm concerned, if you cheat, you cheat... Just get back on the horse and ride. We all experience weak times in our quest for losing weight. It's natural. Just don't let it discourage you, okay? Like I always say, "What is temptation if it doesn't tempt you?"
As far as I know, keto isn't catabolic when done correctly. That means not starving yourself, eating the appropriate amout of protein and eating frequent, small meals throughout the day. I think the real purpose of carb-up is to replenish your glycogen stores in your body. Your muscles will absorb the majority of the incoming carbs because they're starving for it. I believe if you eat more carbs than is necessary it'll take you longer to get back into ketosis. Once your body gets used to being on keto, you'll drop into ketosis faster and more efficiently. It's all a learning process as to what works for your body. My body begs to be in ketosis it seems. 24-36 hours is the norm for me. Trust me, you'll get there.

X2, the more you do it the easier and faster it is! Also, your carbups can get dirtier and longer and bigger everytime becuase your muscles will continually increase it's maximum glycogen storage through supercompensation!
I bet you get back into Ketosis really fast unless you REALLY over did it on the booze.

Thanks for your respones
I'm sorry if my questions weren't straight forward. Firstly, why is a two week induction phase necessary before carbing up for the first time? I ask just because I'm wondering what the science is behind it. From my experience, I can get into ketosis very quickly- maybe because I try to stick to moderate/low GI carbs reguarly, when not doing keto.
Q2 - We want to store only enough glycogen in our carb up to feed our muscles? Do we have a formula to follow here, or is this a trial and error thing?
THANKS AGAIN!

2 weeks is what it usually takes to deplete all glycogen in the liver. That's that logic.
Yes, trial and error is the key in my experience...some people say eat 10x body weight in carbs....others say eat the reverse of Keto macros for the carbup....it all depends on what works for YOUR body.
