    Oats/Porridge (UK people)

    I'm really paranoid about whether we have the same kind of oats as they have in the US. E.g. from what I've read they seem to have much more calories per serving.

    The oats/porridge I use is "Scottish Porage", which has:

    Per 45g:

    Calories: 160
    Protein: 5g
    Fat: 3.6
    Carbs: 27

    Also, how do you eat/cook yours? For example, I have mine with milk, microwaved for 2 minutes without anything on top.
    GOALS for 2009:
    `````````````````````````````
    6 x 90kg (198lbs) bench & 1x100kg (220lbs)
    6 x 120kg (264lbs) deadlift
    6 x 110kg (242lbs) squat
    Cycle more for cardio
    Yep thats exactly how I cook mine, though sometimes I may add some whey and mix it or add a slice of banana, or a teaspoon of honey.
    I use Quakers oats (unflavoured version).
    hmmm, rolled oats, yea that's what all the americans go on about. I don't think they are available here, but I'll check sainsbury's online in a second.
    Branflakes would be nice mixed up.
    The bad thing about porridge, is it just goes really clumpy and is not really nice to eat.
    I do it for 3 minutes normally. You can add honey to flavour, or raisins. It takes me absolutely ages to finish though!
    If you don't like oats don't eat them. There are so many carb sources out there it's silly to eat something you don't enjoy.
    I personally like oat bran better than oats. I eat half a cup of bran, with boiling water, 1 banana, 2 tbs honey and a handful of raisins. Tastes great. Goes down easy with a nice chocolate protein shake.
    I used to have the same issues as this, couldn't eat my porridge first thing, took too long, didn't enjoy it and all that. I was having it with water at one point and that was simply disgusting!
    I now have oats every morning:
    75g of quaker oats into a bowl I then pop a handful of frozen rasberries (bulk buy from Costco - easier than buying fresh all the time) and then pour the milk on top.
    Micro for 2mins. Stir and add milk if necessary. Then another 2 mins, when it comes out I put a handful of pumpkin seeds on top (tesco/sainsburys), a handful of raisins and honey. I then mix the whole thing up. It's gone in seconds! That and a cup of green tea every morning.
    I used to do fresh rasberries and blueberries in my porridge before that.
    I do Quaker Oats (unflavoured rolled oats) most of the time. On training days i do it with milk, on rest days i normally do it with water as then i can have more and consume less carbs.
    Infact i'm addicted to this stuff. Today i had 5 80g bowls of it with about 500ml milk in each! I add a few teaspoons of splenda and man it tastes good. If i could i'd just eat 100 bowls of them, my favourite carbs by far! I microwave it for like 4-5 mins
    I had a couple of bagels today aswell and always just think 'damn that could have been another couple of bowls of oats!'
    Also, how do you eat/cook yours? For example, I have mine with milk, microwaved for 2 minutes without anything on top.
    I have been curious about this lately. Was thinking of including oats in my new diet but was never sure if when I read about oats/oatmeal if it was the same as Porridge.
    Am I right in thinking they are the same?
    What do people add in terms of a protein source to oats (other than whey powder)?
    Was thinking of maybe using them as an alternate breakfast as instead of scambled eggs all of the time.
    That's what I use. I get them from Tescos.
    I add a scoop of whey, and eat it cold. I'll probably start heating it up again once it starts getting cold in the mornings.
    The bad thing about porridge, is it just goes really clumpy and is not really nice to eat.
    don't cook it for so long. i had the same problem. put it in the pot, and stir it for about 30 seconds. it won't be clumpy
    Go to tescos or sainsburys and buy their own brand, its like 75p for 1kg and its exactly the same as all the quaker and other branded stuff. Same macros, everything.
    Cup oats, cup egg white, scoop whey, 1tsp baking powder, 1/2 cup water (or milk), cinnamon, truvia - microwave 30 seconds on/off till its like cake-y.
    but oats are so versatile. With oats, eggs and whey you can do pancakes, waffles, porridge and loads of stuff
    Anyone prefer eating raw without any cooking. I love it raw, just with some cocoa, raisins and seeds and milk! ??
    I eat them cold/uncooked/unheated, with milk and a scoop of flavoured whey protein. Far from tasting bad it tastes very good, all things considered. I was used to hot oats in the UK so the switch to cold took a little while, but the thought of hot oats now seems strange.
    What is this shyat?
    Add in some powdered sweetener/flavoured whey after cooking. If your whey tastes like ****, chug a shake in water for your protein and add in 2 TBSPs Nutella and a banana.
    No excuse sir
    These are microwaved with 100ml milk/100ml filter coffee.
