Lee Out Of The Olympia?
Official Notice
« on: Today at 04:11:54 PM »
OFFICIAL NOTICE:
LEE has pulled out of the Olympia!!!
His decision is bassed on his disapproval with the way the show is run and handled, he beleives he has to stick to his word .
The contract for the show is toataly restricting and onesided all the way for the promoters to the point it is dissrespectfull to the athletes in some instances.
The promoters requirements of the Athletes prior to the event is totaly unnessacery and shows no compasion for the compettitors.
The athletes have to participate in promotional products for the promoter which have the potential to earn millions of dollars with not one cent being given back to the athlete.
The athlete has to sighn away his rights to image and likeness for promotianl and product endorsement with no financial compensation what so ever, plus in most cases go against there Sponcers obligations and rights.
All the athlete gets to be at the Super Bowl of Bodybuilding is there flight paid for, a room(with no cooking facilitys, and no microwaves) plus a $50 buck meal allowance, and 1 ticket to the event.
If the athlete chooses to stay at a hotel other than the one given to them (because of cooking reqiurements) no transport will be offered to them to get to and from the event.
The judgeing is not independently monitored.
The challenge round is a joke and takes away the anticipation of the top 5 plus the money offered in this round should be used to pay for athletes lower down the placeings or should have been put to the Womens Olympia , which has been demoted to haveing their show held in the EXPO hall!
These issues are just some of the problems faceing the Olympia, and are issues shared by alot of the compettitors, its just that lee is a man of his word , so hes out, but not done by any amounts, trust me
regards Hrdcor

Thats disappointing Bob, but Lee has valid reasons not to compete this year. That sucks how the promoters basically a$$ rape the atheletes from making money. Lee you are a true gentleman of the sport.

Once again.
onca again this shows what kind of man LEE PRIEST is, which is a real man. he stands by his opinion and will not sell out by any means. Like every other sport in this world, bodybuilding has become more about the money and not about the bodybuilding. Nothing but respect to you LEE, its too bad that the rest of the pros who dont agree with what is going on dont have the balls that you do. The olympia just lost one of the best this year!!!!!!

one more out burst by Lee......
First of all, thanks bob for providing Lee's side for pulling out of the Olympia.
Lee is the real man with guts. He never accepts anything that is wrong. But the problems he points are everywhere, from a local event to the arnold classic to Olympia, everwhere, at some places negligible and somewhere objectionable.
But as per my point, a system can be changed when U R a part of it, from the inside, not by pulling out.

Weider
For what it is worth, I will NEVER purchase another Weider magazine or support the Weider empire until they clean house! I know it is not much, but it is the principle of the thing.

So Weider can't put more money towards his athletes? Isn't he making a crap load of money by selling magazines, videos, and supplements....if so then he should have billions and should put more money into the Olympia.

Sad to see you out Lee, but I stand behind you 100%. I'd be interested in this paypal idea - Lee deserves it.

Lee, Im very dissapointed that you will not be doing th olympia this year as Im sure everyone else will agree with me, that you are the reason we all watch and follow the olympia contest each year. Its great that you can make a stand like this and I can't understand why other pro's don't follow your lead. Im just wondering how much your fine will be and if you will ever pay it?

I second the paypal thing... Bob could collect it and mail it to him if he doesn't have an account.

Now we know what the "O" in Olympia stands for...
It looks like the "O" means $0.00 for the athletes.
Wieder has always impressed me as a tightwad. He pays -0- for cover models for his magazines. Compare that to what a 16-year old model - who hasn't trained a day in her life - for Glamour might make maybe $5,000 to $10,000.
You go, Lee! Why Wieder ought to reap all the millions for photos not of himself - but of the athletes - tfor product endorsements - it just isn't right.
Now we know why Weider barely ever shows photos of Lee in his magazine except when he has to.
BTW, the prelim photos of Coleman and Cutler? They both look awful compared to prior years. Gunther looks far better - and I'm not a particular fan of his.

Future Changes
Bob, I read your post and was shocked. This is borderline usury in the legal tense. I had no Idea the athletes where treated so poorly. Are there any plans for some mesures of remedy being attempted to change this crap. The way they're treated relly says something about the character of the athletes though, they get the shaft and still compete for the love of the sport, but it really sucks. I applaud Lee for telling them to shove it but man I missed seeing him up there. Maybe this will give a wake up call to the powers that be in the organization. Whats next a strike, this aint the NHL but someone has to blow this up and get some answers. Lee has had enough, and I hope the other pros take it seriously and start demanding some changes. Anyone else support me on this?
