    Your take on Chef Boyardee?

Well I am sure most of you know I have been in an accident and I am very limited in my mobility. Well typically my wife cooks all my meals (I can not cook for the life of me) but I am not training so I have no intentions on eating 8 meals a day while I am sedentary.

OK enough rambling, here is my question, when I get hungry I have been heating up Raviolis, Beefaroni or Spaghetti & Meatballs and I been eating quite a bit, so what do you guys think about this Yes No?

Oh man. My opinion of those is not a very good one. I would say there are numerous other food items you could eat that would do you better.

It's quick canned food but I'd sure read that label; can't imagine what's worse; the fat or sodium content.

I get criticized for this thats why I don't mention it a lot but, I will eat a can of ravioli about 4 times a week even when I am getting ready for a show.

I don't know how to put this in a kind way knowing your situation but here it goes:
It really depends in your ambitions later. Those cans are full of sodium and other crap that will put on the pounds if not doing much cardio. So if you are looking to give yourself extra work when you are able to do full cardio (which will be soon very soon) then go ahead. I would say to have a few cans here and there so you don't gain too much weight.
    Every day counts.

They say picture is worth a thousand words..........I would opt for better choices, as there are quickie foods much better than the good ol' Chef Boyardee. However...they are a hunting camp staple.

the "macaroni" in those cans is totally over cooked and washed out to smithereens, losing most if not all of its nutritional value....the fat content , as pointed out is high and the Sodium? totally off the charts.......

there couldn't possibly be anything worse..LOL.....not having one on hand to look at, I will bet that the red color of the "sauce" is derived from some artificial coloring...

anyone here have a can so that they can verify that?

My question to you BH is why would not still eat all 8 meals? Just lower the calorie intake to your current Metabolism and divide them out across 6-8 meals. This will still keep your metabolism burning and still feed ALL that Muscle.

So have MRS cook it up and pack it up for you into your servings.
Squat it does a body good!

Carl: my attempt to see the actual INGREDIENTS in a can were in vain, I even went to Boyardee's site itself....

I will simply have to pick up a can somewhere to find out this information......they claim in their site that there are no preservatives in their products...but they didn't say anything about artificial additives......

I will stick with my suspicion that they use RED DYE #5 or whatever to get the color of it's appearance...

okay: look no further than my own pantry! HAHAHAHAHA....

my youngest son, who is still home until next August: his fiancee is wild about this stuff and keeps some here to snack on, so, I was able to read a can of Lasagne!

no artificial ingredients listed and no food dyes listed.....will give them credit on that....

the nutrional info is based upon a cup of product: the can, which is not all that large is 15 ounces, so that means , essentially, that if a guy has one can of this stuff he is getting 2000 mg of Na in one serving......

but I must admit, could be worse...

Chef Boyardee ... boy does that bring back memories ... warming up cans of ravioli on days I was off school ... lol

Yeah, there's better choices. Most pre-fabricated foods like that are way high in sodium and bad fats.

Damn not sure if the ruling is No or yes LOL. Oh the reason why I am not eating my typical meals is that I really don't like what I eat I just eat it cause it is my bodybuilding food and it is all part of my training.

Well since I am not training I really don't feel like eating all that stuff and was wondering if the Chef's were OK. I guess I don't have an answer

Also my wife still leaves me the left overs from Dinner but being home all day you get hungry all the time

I'm the absolute last person on these boards to talk to about diet but knowing what you just went thru bro, a couple of cans of Chef Boyardee ain't gonna hurt you ! You deserve something simple in your life right now and popping open a can of beef - a - roni certainly qualifies as simple ! I say enjoy it .. but don't keep it up for too long !

My issues with it are in the enriched flours used for the pasta and the saturated fats.

I do think the Beefaroni is lower in the fat content than the ravioli or lasagna.

BH, what about snacking on almonds, craisins, carrots, apples and the occassional peanut butter and honey on whole grain bread?

Well since I am not training I really don't feel like eating all that stuff and was wondering if the Chef's were OK. I guess I don't have an answer

Also my wife still leaves me the left overs from Dinner but being home all day you get hungry all the time
With your ridiculous metabolism, I rather doubt that canned pasta is going to be too detrimental...

If you look at the protein, 8g per serving and the can contains 2 servings, right?

16g for the can, but if you would just try, say, canned chili, you're going to get around 42g protein per can, or a small can of tuna 33g.

There are many canned meals that are way superior to spaghetti-o's in higher content of stuff we want, and lower content of stuff we don't.

OK enough rambling, here is my question, when I get hungry I have been heating up Raviolis, Beefaroni or Spaghetti & Meatballs and I been eating quite a bit, so what do you guys think about this Yes No?

My son loves them as for me I think not .My vote is NO. If you must eat out of a can or cant cook .There are plently of other alternatives . You cant make a deli or tuna sandwich , scrambled eggs ,eat a quailty cereal or oatmeal.Try Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice meals just 7 min. in the micro and there ready and a lot better then canned pasta.

i have a broken hand and opening some foods can be extremely difficult so my selection isn't as vast.
ur limited mobility comes into play, and i'm guessing ur food options may be limited as well?

i eat what's available and whatever is most convenient.
whatever crap i consume will have to do for now.
when i'm better i'll train 2x as hard to get into shape.

so short answer, sure it's fine.
    just my opinion.
I use Ejaculoid. I'd prove it to you, but I'm not a homo.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Basically maintaining your eating habits through your rehab will help you now (with good nutrition) when you are back at it.

Edit: my mouth started watering just thinking about the CB ravioli. I so want to eat a couple cans too
I might be out of the woods...

Maybe once or twice a year I get a huge jones for Chef boyardee beef raviolis. Sometimes I go years without them and then the urge strikes. Same for grilled hot dogs. I never wanted to be on the cover of M&F anyway so when the itch hits me I scratch it.
