Any one here have/use sandbags?
Sandbags are going to make up a good portion of my home gym and I am wondering what if any ideas people have as to how to split up the weights, and what to use to hold them. I am looking at getting 200-250lbs of sand to begin with, and split it up as follows: 4*25lbs, 6*10lbs 4*5lbs and 4*2.5 with 10lbs left over to keep as a reserve. I have a 3-4 foot duffel bag that doing a quick test seems to be adequate for benching, but should I maybe look into getting a large laundry bag as well? I know how to make the smaller bags, but I just am wondering what peoples opinions are on holding them all together.
P.S Thanks for putting up with all of my probably seeming weird questions. The answers that I have gotten here have been of great help.

I went to Lowe's and bought 3 packs of Heavy Duty XL Ziploc Bags, and a box of 42 Contractor Cleanup bags. I think measuring the increments like that might be a massive pain in the ass, but if you've got the patience for that it's looks like a good plan.
Here is a very good guide on making sand bags:

That's actually where I got my inspiration to build the bag. I was just wondering what other people do. I'm a member of their forum there, but it isn't as active as this one so getting an idea of what to do can take a little while.

Ahh, I gotcha...
Here's what I bought on my trip to Lowe's:
150lbs. Quikrete Sand
3 Packs Ziploc Heavy Duty XL Storage Bags (15 total)
1 Box 42ct Contractor Cleanup Bags (find the ones that are the thickest)
I had an old black military duffel bag laying around so that's what I've got it all in at the moment. I'm looking for something a little bigger for the future though.
I basically just picked a spot on the ziploc bags (there are lines/#s on them, I went to #4), and filled sand up to there. I wound up with 9 of these ziploc bags so it winds up being right about 17lbs. I then squeezed all the air out and folded them over a few times, then duct taped the tops. With the 6 remaining bags I took 6 sand-filled bags and double bagged those, got the air out, and put them all into individual contractor cleanup bags. So I've got 6 bags of sand that are triple bagged, and 3 that are only double bagged. Then I knotted and tied the cleanup bags, duct taped over the knot, and clipped off the excess bag. After lining the duffel bag with another contractor cleanup bag, I put all the individual bags in the duffel, tied it off and now it's beating the hell out of me.
I don't know if that's what you were looking for but that's how I did it.

A smidgen bit more detailed then what I was wondering, but yeah, that was pretty much what sort of answers that I am looking for. I'm debating just filling bags and finding out how much they weigh later and mark them, or spend time to get just the right amount.

lol, i've filled and lifted thousands of sandbags in Iraq, if your considering using genuine sandbags you are going to get extremly dirty.....you might want to try one and see if triple bagging it helps the dirt leakage, overall though it is a good workout....marius pudzianowski uses a version of potato sacks that weigh 250 lbs if i can remember correctly....obviously he's given the idea of sandbags some justice.....

haha, alright. The right amount will never hurt, I justt didn't do it because I wanted to start as fast as possible.

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...1#post96108411 My own post about training and what really got me interested in training. Watch the videos it should give you a good idea.
That is just a small sampling of what I have found online. The only thing that concerns me is getting a proper lower body exercise, but I think I should be able to manage with the resources I have found online, ex Bulgarian squats
