ah, i'm in the same boat, i stopped for about 5 months....i lost my car insurance and i wasn't about to take the bus 45min to my gym every day....i ended up losing about 10lbs. of muscle. i previously weighed 214, and now i weight 196...i'm also taking into account that i've lost some fat as well, i did continue to do cardio, just absolutely no lifting... i have no idea how long it'll take to get you strength back, but i'm hoping someone can give the both of us a ballpark figure... now that i've started up again, i feel so weak. I sometimes find myself laughing at how pathetic my lifts have gotten...its kinda sad actually.

Once you get back into it you'll be able to pick up strength in no time. Start with lighter weights but if you only took 2 months off you'll be back to "normal" in like a month I'd say..

I also "quit" over the summer due to no transportation (transportation is always the damn issue!). It's very frustrating to go back in the gym and not lift as much. No worries. It took me a full 3 weeks I believe to gain back everything I had lost. I didn't do crap over the summer either except box maybe once a week, but I was eating crap and I was eating below my maintenence. By mid August, I looked nasty! I was able to fully recover by early/mid September. Don't worry you'll get there!
(and i'm pleased to say I bulked up and gained a ton of muscle on top of what I lost since then!)

...How are we supposed to know? Is there supposed to be some kind of magical calculator for these things?

It won't take longer than two months. It always comes back faster than it went away. Of course the longest I've taken off from lifting since I was 14 years old was 2 or 3 weeks, so I don't exactly have experience with this.

been to the gym 4 times since back, my lifts are terrible, no stamina. I basically still look the same but gained a little around my midsection. Oh, and Im more sore then I ever been, which is good. Back to cardio for the first time tommorow morning, and lifting in the afternoon.

I'm just getting back into things after taking a month off as well. I'm lifting the same amount of weight, but I fatigue a lot quicker tho.

Before June I took a 2-3 years off from lifting out of pure laziness. My prs were a 290 bench, a 525 squat, and a dlift about 495 I think. I started back up benching 105, squating 200, and dlifting about 180 with having to really work for my sets of 10. Anyway long story short, in August I was benching 220 (set of 8), squatting 435 (set of 2), and dlifting somewhere around 380-390 (set of 8). Since you didn't wait as long as I did to get back into lifting, I would say a few weeks, at least thats what my crystal ball tells me.

I had a 9-10 month layoff 2 years ago, including shoulder surgery at the end. It took 4-6 weeks after the surgery before I could lift at all, 8-10 weeks to fully recover. After than I would say about 3 months to get back to where I was before the layoff. 4-5 months afterwards (after the shoulder surgery) I was lifting heavier than before the layoff.
Just had my other shoulder fixed up, so that will be another 6-8 weeks before I'm really lifting properly again.
So I'd say it shouldn't take you more than 5 weeks or so to get back to where you were. Hopefully the layoff will have actually have done some good, maybe even get some newbee-ish gains, and you'll be lifting even harder than you were in 2-3 months.

I ended up taking a month off on accident. I know 'accident' sounds stupid, its just that I've been so busy with school that the time went by fast. Kept telling myself I'd go the gym the next day and then wouldnt, since I would be bogged down with more work.
Started lifting again a week ago, none of my lifts are down, but my stamina is down quite a bit and I am SORE. I never even got this sore when I was first starting out

You will have most of your strength but your muscles will not have the same endurance. After your third week things should pick up back to normal.
