I enjoy hanging leg raises while holding a dumbbell with my feet.

The plank/ bridge..
1. Start by placing your forearms on the ground and forming a plank with your forearms and feet.
2. Hold this position keeping your body parallel to the ground for the required time.
Put a plate on your back for added intenseity. You should start to really feel a burn.

Get a medicine ball, whatever your desired weight. Go in your basement or place that it's ok to throw the ball of the wall. Square up with the wall and twist and your body side to side throwing the ball and catching it. Hard to explain, but try and imagine/visualize.

I would think that Weighted Dips and Weighted Chins are good for strength.

This technique is very popular for core stability and strength.
It's harder then it looks.
I know a few Black Belts in Tae-Kwon-Do who swear by this exercise.

Squat and Deadlift. Period. With the exception to some of the Oly lifts, those two will do far more for you than anything else.

Lol thats what was gonna say, as far as I know they are called overhead squats, and its the weight thats hard its the position. I would deftinely not hold it like a militar press. If you do it makes it easier for the weight to sink down and put your shoulder into it to much. Do it like you just finishes a snatch. Widest grip posibble and let the arms lean back wards as far as comfortablly possible. I always use a spotter. And this is one where 20 pounds X20 is much better then 70X4

My favorite is to get on a decline bench, and sit up until your body is perpendicular with the bench. Then take a weight (I use a 30 lbs. dumbbell) and hold it with ur arms completely extended outward from your chest. At this point you lower the weight to your left, by twisting your midsection, till you feel a good stretch. Make sure to keep the arms extended. Now return to the starting postion and lower to the right. That is one. Do this for 3 set of 12-15 reps. Its great, because it works your lower back, obliques, and abs all at the same time.
I then throw is body bridges, bicycles, good mornings, hyperextension, hanging leg raises and dead lifts to work my core.
I usually work my core twice a week.
It worked great for improving core strength for football.

Do some weighted crunches (have a few weight plates hold them at chest level)
Do a few sets (2-3 like usual), try and find a rep range where you can pull out 10-12, then increase the weight a few lbs at a time if available. (Doesn't matter - resistance is better than no resistance).
I'd then finish off with an isometric, like 'the plank' aforementioned above - really good core exercise. Try and hold this one for as long as you can. (Usually 1-4 min avg.)
See how that goes, should get muscle soreness in the abs with this one
I also suggest integrating some oblique work as well and changing exercises as per any other muscle group every 6-8 weeks.
Edit: Try body bridges with two stability balls if you can, that is a killer.

Seems there is much confusion between general abs exercises and exercises for the core!!
