confused abt pre/post WO nutrition
Hi Everyone,
Just wondering how you keep your energy up for workouts. I was looking around the keto boards and decided to try it out (began yesterday). In the past, I've done "atkins" but quit soon into the program because I felt so weak in my workouts.
Anyhow, the question is: Does the once weekly carb up get you through the week's workouts or do you eat carbs pre-workout (just enough to get you through)?

Sometimes it takes up to a week for your body to really adapt for working out. My suggestion is to eat a protein and fat before workout to help keep energy up.

Fat provides lots of energy, it just takes a few days for your body to adjust to using fat instead of carbs. I suspect we've been so brainwashed by the "carbs are necessary for exercise" mantra that it takes longer for our minds to accept that everything is still working fine.
If you have an exceptionally tough workout planned, then a few carbs beforehand can help, but for a normal day at the gym, you shouldn't need them.
The first couple of weeks are tough, there's no doubt about that. After that, you should be flying.

CKD calls for a weekly or biweekly carb-up. TKD calls for some carbs pre/post, but no weekly carbups. I prefer the TKD and usually eat a protein/fat meal at least an hour before I lift, and then sip some protein before and during my workout. I also use about 12 grams of malto with my PWO shake and whatever carbs are in the whey I drink. Seems to be working for me. I've noticed that my endurance has progressed, and my strength is almost back to where it was pre-keto. Hope that helps.

Im pretty much exactly the same, using TKD because its more effective for my fat loss. I use 30g Dextrose PWO though, doesnt even knock me out of ketosis.

I usually drink coffee or take a thermo supplement before a workout.

You can also take Coconut oil, I love this stuff and it works wonders. As for me I notice taking some toast with honey and maybe even some juice pre-workout is awesome. I was weary of this because I heard it gets used up fast and it's better to have slow digesting carbs but I haven't had any problems. Hell I used it to run 5 miles and it worked fine so.
