I would avoid the whey protein other then post-workout because it causes an insulin spike which you want to avoid.

Whey is a food. The form you buy it in the store it is a food supplement but a food nonetheless.

the whole point on keto is to decrease insulin sensitivity.. spiking your insulin other than post workout will keep you out of ketosis too long.

tell me if im wrong, but i though carbs caused insulin spikes, not protein.

Well, he may have been confused as to why, but it's true about it not being good except post workout, something to do with it getting absorbed too fast to work properly. Layne Norton has an article in the site somewhere that explains it better.

Maybe if he was dieting for a show he would worry about the gram or two of carbs in the shake. However, the OP could purchase a whey isolate and be OK.

OP if your bulking, why do a true keto. If you want to follow that principle, then try a high protein, moderate fat, moderate carb diet. Im just a little confused, as keto is a great diet to lose weight, but trying to gain weight solely without carbs may be quite a task.
