Those who use ginseng swear by its effects. Bodybuilders and athletes have found ginseng to be a very valuable supplement for a number of reasons. First, ginseng helps the body adapt to higher levels of stress. Next, ginseng has the ability to increase endurance and help recovery rates. Finally, ginseng is a remedy for fatigue and nervous breakdown.
From personally taking it, I find it calms me down and eases stress especially when I am restricting carbsdogs are forever in the push-up position.

No ergogenic effects of ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) during graded maximal aerobic exercise.
Engels HJ, Wirth JC.
Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation-Exercise Science, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48202, USA.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the effects of chronic supplementation with two different dosages of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer on physiologic and psychological responses during graded maximal aerobic exercise. DESIGN: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. SUBJECTS: Thirty-six healthy men consuming an otherwise supplement-free diet who maintained their usual activity level. INTERVENTION: A standardized P ginseng C.A. Meyer concentrate (G115) was added to the normal diet of study participants at a dosage level of either 200 or 400 mg/day, where 100 mg of the preparation is equivalent to 500 mg P gingseng root. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Submaximal and maximal aerobic exercise responses before and after an 8-week trial intervention. STATISTICAL ANALYSES PERFORMED: Analysis of variance. RESULTS: Thirty-one subjects completed the study. Supplementation with ginseng had no effect on the following physiologic and psychological parameters: oxygen consumption (mL/kg per minute), respiratory exchange ratio, minute ventilation (L/min), blood lactic acid concentration (mmol/L), heart rate (beats/min), and perceived exertion (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: Our data in healthy men do not offer support for claims that P ginseng C.A. Meyer is an ergogenic aid to improve submaximal and maximal aerobic exercise performance.

AIM: To examine the treatment efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) in impotent men with erectile dysfunction (ED). METHODS: A total of 60 patients presenting mild or mild to moderate ED were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which the efficacies of KRG and a placebo were compared. The patients received either 1,000 mg (3 times daily) of KRG or a placebo. RESULTS: The five-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) score after the treatment was significantly higher in the KRG group compared with that before the treatment (from 16.4 +/- 2.9 to 21.0 +/- 6.3, P < 0.0001). In contrast, there was no difference before and after the treatment in the placebo group (from 17.0 +/- 3.1 to 17.7 +/- 5.6, P > 0.05). In the KRG group, 20 patients (66.6%), reported improved erection, significant in the global efficacy question (P < 0.01); in the placebo group there was no significance. Scores on questions 2 (rigidity), 3 (penetration), 4 and 5 (maintenance), were significantly higher for KRG than those for the placebo when those questions were answered after 12 weeks of each treatment (P < 0.01). When the score in the KRG group was compared to the placebo group after the treatment, there was a significant improvement in total score (IIEF-5 score) in questions 3 and 5 for the KRG-treated group (P < 0.001 and P < 0.0001, respectively). The levels of serum testosterone, prolactine and cholesterol after the treatment were not statistically significant different between the KRG and the placebo group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our data show that KRG can be an effective alternative to the invasive approaches for treating male ED.

A couple of threads from the Supp Science section that may be of help...
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hlight=ginseng
Based on this study, we conclude that 1,350 mg per day PNG (Panax Ginseng) supplement for 30 days improved endurance time to exhaustion, and lowered MAP and Vdoto2 during endurance exercise.
CONCLUSION: Animal studies in-vivo found a consistent protective effect of ginseng against cancer development, growth, metastisis and mortality.

there are two kinds of ginseng. red and white. they both have different results. those who have hypertension should not take white ginseng, it will make your blood rise and also body tends to get overheated. ive taken red ginseng for about 2 years now and it has some effects but you will not notice the effect of ginseng till you take it about 6 months.

their are a lot of different quality extracts out their 80% gensenosides is the highest i've found. specific gensenosides do a host of different things from raising t3 out put to increasing lh. from the studies i've scene their only beginning to scratch the surface and discovering different extracts. how they will live up in the real world, i dunno? but on paper things look promising.

I think its one of those cases where therory doesn't equate to reality.
I have heard lots of positive feedback from weigtlifters and track/field athletes regarding ginseng. Placebo ? who knows!
What I'm interested is does it helps bodybuilders to increase lean muscle mass and reduce body fat directly or indirectly.".....Enjoying my life to fullest extent possible; you should too"
Hundreds of whey protein products reviewed.....the process is on!

Back in mu studying days i did a 100page assay on ginsengs and from i concluded most of the studies that reported nothing used a too low dose. You need at least one gram of extract(preferably 2 grams) to start getting results. It's not a great ergogenic, Eleutherococcus is a much much better one, but has a very positive effect on mentality which personally helps me train better when on ginseng. Plus it's cheap as hellLast edited by Bane; 12-04-2007 at 01:43 AM.

WOW !! This is a great post.Thank you very much.I have been trying to read more about Ginseng and other adaptogens lately.I have bulk Rhodiola and just picked up some Red Korean Ginseng which is suppose to be good for libido and it is also suppose to boost Nitric Oxide levels.I'm going to use it without any other N.O precursors/etc. and see how the pumps/vascularity are.
Thanks again.
Oh by the way,I noticed all the Get Diesel products contain Panax Ginseng and Chuck Diesel really knows his stuff,so it must be in there for a reason."One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like a infantile retard." -Mike Tyson
