    Question Shaping biceps?

    Hey,

I'm been lifting weights for quite a while now, and I have long, thick biceps than span completely from my shoulder to my forearm. However I'm missing that peak or rounded bulge and I was wondering if anyone knew specific exercises I can do to fix that?

I'm already doing concentration, standing barbell, and preacher curls regularly, finishing sets with 55lb dumbbells for the concentration curls, standing barbell with 55lbs per side and preacher curls with 150lbs on the rack, so hopefully not using enough weight isn't so much the issue!!

thanks to anyone who can help my pitiful biceps!!

Do your concentration curls bent over "Arnold style", use a hammer grip if nec. These will give your biceps "pop" off your forearms. Do close grip curls to work the outer head.

    Great thanks!!

Actually I have been doing my concentration curls Arnold style, I find them much more challenging that way. I'll try using a hammer style grip, that sounds interesting if nothing else!!

As for the close grip curls, I'm not sure what you mean... is that with a barbell and my hands about shoulder-width apart?

    Thanks again!!

Try a curl bar using the inner grips. Do some sets on preacher that way too.

I forgot to mention too, vary your reps. Do some sets with higher reps. They impart a "different" look to the muscles.

I do cross-chest hammer curls. You can't get a more "narrow" grip than that.

i do mine that way with a kettlebell. Awesome exercise. I also do kb curls standing with a arm blaster. My bis have come a long way as of late. Just can't believe I did not think of this earlier.

You cannot train for a "peak." To say that you can is preposterous. You can train for a peak as much as I can train for a split in my chest like Franco Columbo had.

The long head of the biceps is what makes the peak. You can train the long head of the biceps.
If (a) is the long head
    and (b) is peak
    and (c) is training
    then a=b and a=c so therfore c=b

Not true, it is a different thing. The split was structural, like bicep belly length. Peak is the development of the upper, outer part of the bicep, which it is possible to emphasize due to the phenomena of "compartmentalization".

Gee, $AJ, you didn't even use that post as a segue to talk about what kind of car you have or how much money you make....you must be slipping.

It must be tough to read the posts with your head buried in the sand. Tell me, is your book a photo-copy of DC's manual, or did you just change some of the words?

    peak is genetic
If you f8cked up bicep is a result of a childhood accident, then that has nothing to do with genetics, and you just invalidated your own argument. PWN3D

I love the argument "each of my biceps look different, as did Arnolds, that means shaping doesn't work"...makes a lot of sense. I missed the part where I said shaping was perfect and absolute.

Just because they're shaped differently doesn't mean you can't shape each one individually.

    Idea

I think we should have a section where people can post pix on how to do exercises properly and videos..I think it would help people a lot..because sometimes it is hard to understand if you are just reading.

Haha, mashed potatoe mountains are great.

Now, not to argue with AJ, but I thought targeting a certain area of a muscle was a big part of bodybuilding. Ex. Incline/Decline presses, or Wide/narrow grip pulls/chins/rows

not all people can get a good peak on their biceps, its mostly genetic. for example: Lou Ferrigno, Surge Oliva...they have long and thick biceps, but they don't have that "peak"

Gee, $AJ, you didn't even use that post as a segue to talk about what kind of car you have or how much money you make....you must be slipping.

It must be tough to read the posts with your head buried in the sand. Tell me, is your book a photo-copy of DC's manual, or did you just change some of the words?
Come on D1. Put the Larry Scott reference on 'em again. The canadian cat always seems to have his tongue on that one.
