Im thinking of slipping ...
I quit drinking softdrinks a few months back. I only drink one or 2 on the weekend for a treat.
But here the last couple days, I was thinking of having one or 2 a day. Is it a real big deal like some people make it out to be?
I really havent lost any weight from not drinking it, this is why im thinking of maybe picking up the bottle again..lol
What info can any of you share with me to keep me clean?

A single 12-ounce can of soda has as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup. Fructose does not stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. Insulin acts as signals to the brain to turn down the appetite and control body weight. Because fructose in isolation doesn't activate the hormones that regulate body weight as do other types of carbohydrate composed of glucose, consuming a diet high in fructose could lead to taking in more calories and, over time, to weight gain.
Find your favorite food in the form of Complex carbs and eat them instead.
Another quote is that there is NO nutritional value in a can of soda, So why drink it?
Get back on the wagon.
Squat it does a body good!

Just don't drink them. I quit cold turkey over a year ago and haven't had one consciously since then. I'm the type who has problems quitting habitual things too. I was drinking 2-3 a day.
Just force yourself to say no. Find someone who can hold you accountable. After a while the cravings go away and you don't even think of it anymore. I go into the pantry or a resteraunt and ordering a soft drink never even crosses my mind. You get to a point where you just don't want to have one, and you really don't want to break your clean record.

Well, assuming you mean cans of pop, that's around 160 calories a can (give or take, depending on brand.) Two a day is 320 calories, times 365 days is about 120,000 calories per year, which is equal to about 33 pounds of body fat!
Of course, that doesn't get into issues of food substitution (you may eat more of other junk in compensation if you don't drink pop), the mild calorie burning effect of caffeine, etc...but on the whole, there's a good reason to avoid routine 'empty' calories (foods that are mostly just sugar) like pop.
Try diet pop, or sugar-free teas, etc., or just a big glass of water when you feel snackish.

I drink water all the time...I also drink flavored water all the time for the carbination. I drink milk too...And like I said as of now, I just drink 1,2 softdrinks on the weekends as a treat.
I have quit drinking soda every day for quite a while now and really I dont think its helped me to drop any weight. My diet isnt perfect ,but its far from horrible. Im not a sweet tooth anymore. I dont eat chips, popcorn or anything like that anymore.
I eat lots of fruit every day for my snacking purpose.
I see lots of people drinking softdrinks every day and they dont really gain weight. Im begining to think soda really isnt as bad as what some say. But I dont wanna just start drinking a gallon a day like before either...
I dont know...Im gonna think about it for a while and see what I come up with. In the meanwhile you guys keep posting and letting me hear ya out.

That's some serious rationalization there. What's wrong with diet soda? You get the drink without ~13 tsps of sugar. Sure, you give up a little on taste, but I would rather give up a little taste, versus eating all that sugar.
Also, you say you see all these other people drinking sodas and don't gain weight. Do you study "all these people" and their complete lifestyles?
Add 13 tsps of sugar per day for 1 week, then 1 year. In 1 year, drinking 1 regular soda per day, you will have injested 4745 tsps of sugar from that one source, alone. That's 4745 more tsps of sugar than I plan on injesting.

Excellent advice there!
HFCS is nothing to mess around with!
I have been 'clean' off of the sodas (diet or otherwise) for over 2.5 years now.
Never look back!
Steer clear of the sodas!

Sometimes we eat and drink things because they taste good. I know that isnt what anyone here wants to hear. But its true. Sometimes you dont want water, or milk or unsweet drinks or whatever your taste is..Sometimes you like something cause its good.
I know for a fact that Coke doesnt kill you. My grandma drank coke every day of her life and lived to 81 years old. And she ate like crap most all the time.
I know its not about "what can we get away with and still live"...BUT sometimes things get thrown a little out of proportion.
Im not trying to make excusses for wanting a Coke, but trying to just get opinions from people. Because so far, I dont feel any different from NOT drinking it except to tell people I dont drink it anymore.

Well, we can not convince you.
The coke we drink today is vastly different from your grandmother's cola BTW.
Your grandmother did not have High Fructose Corn Syrup, Partially Hydrogenated Oils, Over Processed foods or a sedentary lifestyle.
You are rationalizing your soda consumption. Fine.
But, do not try to delude US into thinking pop/soda/cola is OKAY.
I know for a fact that you will see greater gains and feel MUCH healthier if you stay off of it.
Also, the cravings DO subside if you just have some discipline/willpower for a few months.
I used to be a Diet Mt Dew JUNKIE... seriously drank several LITERS A DAY!
If I can quit I know anyone can... and I feel so much better now!

MY GMA JUST DIED 3 YEAR AGO...Im not trying to talk myself into it...But im just confused as to why I havent dropped like 10lbs or so? I was being told that it was so bad for me and all I thought I would lose a lot of weight but havent yet. I might have lost some bodyfat I guess.
I workout all the time, and I walk/jog on a treadmill too...I do this all 5 times a week. So even if a persons diet isnt perfect , you should still by all means lose weight doing everything I do. I must have a bad thyroid or something..lol
Thanks for all the replies and im trying to stay strong.....
thanks all

Say sumthing nice or STFU
There are some pretty good reasons up above to not drink soda's and it doesn't take a medical degree to know it's not your best choice for hydrating the body, But is a coke going to kill you? No. Life is meant to enjoy so if having a coke every once in awhile is what you want then why not? On the other hand is one coke going to start that downward slide into full on coke addiction? I don't drink any soda's myself and have not for as long as I can remember. I did as a kid, but I just lost the taste for it I guess. If I am going to have a carbonated beverage I'll take a beer! But that's a whole nother thread!

well i guess i should say...IM 6'2" and last time I checked around 250 or so lbs. I have lots of muscle under what fat I do have. Im pretty strong I guess. I can run really fast "faster than most people"....
I workout Sunday - Thursday and take off Friday and Saturday. It just fits my life.
I started working out back when I was about 25. Got really into it around 27 and started climbing in weight and strength from there. I wasnt totally as stricked as I wanted to be with my schedual but still ...I worked out A LOT...
My diet was never totally clean. I ate a LOT and was still drinking softdrinks.
Then I quit workingout around 2002 or early 03....I now have been back on a tight schedual for about 9months. Luckly I had lots of "muscle memory" and im back pretty strong again and feel better than I have in years.
All the time I worked out ..I never did really any cardio, besides maybe play a little basketball once a month or so..lol...But now since I have been working out again...I use a heavybag, speedbag, "i was jump ropping" but my ropes keep breaking so I stopped...I walk/jog on a treadmill for 20-30 minutes and lift weights ...I do this 5 nights a week...
Hope all this helps....

I haven't had a soda in over a year and it's the best thing that I could have done... The comments made her about how bad it is for you are all terrific... However I want to add one more... Did you know that soda can actually eat paint off of furniture, and can eat through aluminum? Who wants to consume that??? Diet soda's don't have the sugar it's true, but the substitutes aren't good for you either... Drink water!!! I occasionally have %100 pure apple juice for some nice flavor... :-)
Peace all...

The added sugar from the soda can cause a major problem to your organs. Not today maybe not tomorrow but it will later on down the road. You may want to run a search on the internet about diabeties and why we get it. It would make you rethink all the sugar you are putting in your body. Our bodies were not made to consume so much sugar.
Yes it tastes great to you now but after you stop drinking it completly for about 6 months you won't want to drink it again. I actually will take a sip of someone elses every once in awhile to shock me. The taste is horrible and sickning sweet. It tastes like poison.
It honestly sounds like you are trying to convince us that it's ok to drink soda and thats why you are going to do so. To me, it's just not worth it.

Me and my wife used to share maybe 1-2 cans a week as a treat with dinner. Finally I told her enough is enough its nothing but HFCS where drinking sugar.I never used to drink soda she was the one that got us started 7 years ago . So I stopped it and she hasnt brought it up since or seems to miss it. I have also cut out all deserts at work and stopped snacking at home .Just makes no sense . In 6 months I dropped 7 pounds to the weight Im at now 162 without changing my regular diet.

I have never drank soda even as a kid, but my wife used to drink it eveyday. since she has stopped she will be the frist to tell you how much better she feels and like others here she can not stand it now. This stuff is poison man and it causes all kind of problems with our kids and adults. So I'd saty away from it even on the weekends that mite be part of the problem on you getting off of it. Just my opinion

Your food diet most likely needs to be cleaned up more; you can't rely on just dropping the pop to get the weight loss.
I might buy a 12pak or two a year; divided among company and myself and when it's gone, I don't miss it.
Can you hold on to keeping it a weekend thing for a while longer since you've done so well so far?
Would your consumption really zoom up if you went back to your old ways & do you want that?
It's tough; the soda advertising is everywhere & seems every other week in the grocery ads, it's front page 12pak soda sales - Coke or Pepsi.
FWIW, got something rusty? Pour Coke on it & rub with aluminum foil. Great rust remover.

Ah - but what about those times when you were unconscious?
Seriously though, anyone remember the trick of putting a piece of meat on a string in a glass of soda overnight? Come back the next day - the meat's gone...
I always wondered what the heck that stuff was doing to my stomach if it can dissolve meat? Obviously soda doesn't stay in your stomach overnight (hopefully), but it always made me think I was drinking acid. I do still drink 1-2 every 6 months or so, but no more than that. Moderation in all things.

I stopped soda about a year ago. I keep a supply in the house for guests and as a mixer. On Thanksgiving I had a "sip" of Coca-Cola, I remember saying to myself "Boy am I glad I gave this stuff up". For what it's worth!

That frikken Canadian
the stopping soda is the hardest for me. I gave up chocolate (or reduced it) and I am a chocoholic.
I used to drink 2 litter pepsi a day when I was heavier. I then switched to diet but kept drinking 2 litters.
Now, I am still drinking it, but I have 1 can at work (and usually end up dumping half of it at end of my shift).
I also have another one at night when I have a stiff drink (rum and pepsi)

Sportin' a 1-pack
Just my experience here, but I stopped drinking soft drinks in July and I've lost 10 lbs. Cleaned the diet up some also, but far from "clean" as many on here eat. Just had a coke last night with dinner, didn't even taste like I remember it and gave me heartburn. I think I made the right choice. I'll stick with water or tea.
You're either in or in the way!

The show goes on
I have given up most refined sugars and hfcs.
For soda's (I'm an IT guys so mountain dew was required it seemed) I now drink diet sunkist. I like the orange taste and it doesnt tast at all like a diet drink. But even drinking the diet sodas I only drink one or 2 a week now.
I just dont seem to crave em anymore. I drink water allot more now.
The only sweets I get are special occasions like Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I do like to eat one piece of dark chocolate (%65 cocoa or higher) before bed because its heart healthy and its only a few grams. I dont eat the box like i used to do.
as for curing a sweet tooth I highly recomend trying soy slenders chocolate soy milk. It taste like regular chocolate milk but is very low in carbs and fat.
good hot or cold. One trick is to put a spoon os splenda in 1/4 cup of coffee and then fill it up the rest of the way with chocolate soy milk and ice cubes.
Its like candy, taste just like the BK Mocha Joe

Haha, you know what I mean. I didn't intend to drink it, but drank it by accident.
There are actually quite a few things that can be done with soda that are really disturbing. I'll see if I can find a list.

Here are some other household uses:
This list of uses was tested on ordinary, original Coca Cola, not the diet kind, or any of the variations there are available.
Cleaned a burned saucepan by pouring Coke into it and boiling. This takes out all the staining.
It's easy to make a modern photograph look like an old sepia one. Just lightly brush the photograph with Coca Cola and dry quickly. Don't wet it too much or it will buckle. Photocopied black and white pictures make great looking "antique" prints, if you treat them in the same way. Maps photocopied and treated this way, look fantastic in antique style frames.
If you dye your hair and the result is too intense, flat Coca Cola will help to lighten it.
Give old coins a soak in Coke. This gives a brilliant shine for collections and decorative items.
Pour Coca Cola into your kettle and leave all day. This will remove limescale and leaves it clean inside.
A can of Coke poured into the toilet will clean it. The acid in the drink gets to work right away.
Make an excellent barbecue sauce by mixing Coke and Ketchup , half and half. Coat chicken, meat, etc with this before cooking. It's mouthwatering.
Flat Coke makes a good hair conditioner. Pour it over your hair, rinse and dry.
Put Coke into flat wide dishes in the garden and it will help to rid your plants of slugs. They are attracted by the sweet smell and once they fall in, they can't get out.
Rusty bolts can be loosened by soaking a rag in Coca Cola, and wrapping it around the bolt. Leave for a few hours and it will be easier to move.
Clean your jewelery in a glass of Coke. Brush with a toothbrush and rinse well. (Not recommended for valuable items, or those with gem stones in them.)
Flat Coca Cola helps to settle upset stomachs. Don't use fresh, fizzy Coke as this could irritate the condition. (Take the fizz out by adding a little sugar, if you need to.)

LOL LOL I love this thread!!! All good info, but the bottom line is that soda is NOT good for you... Or, let's say that water is so much better for you... I know one thing... When I was younger... About 12 or so, I didn't have one cavity... My Mother never let us drink soda... Only water & juices... A couple of years later, due to the bad influence of my Father & step mother, I started drinking soda... A year later, I got my first cavity, two the next year, and it was down hill from there... I wish I would have stopped sooner... Coincidence? I think not... I didn't change anything else at that time... It WAS the EVIL soda!!!
Peace all!!!!!!!!!
