    knee injury question

Perhaps you all can give me some good advice here.

I managed to injure my right knee while getting out of the car last wednesday. I put my left leg out, and then stood up on both legs, pushing out a bit at the same time, like usual. This time, however, I immediately felt a sharp pain in my right knee, outside, toward the quad. I didn't bang my knee aganist anything, so I suppose I twisted it? I dunno.

I thought it was okay on Sunday, as it hadn't hurt in a few days, so I did upper body weights and cycling. The cycling made my knee hurt again, so obviously its not better.

There's never been any swelling, and the pain is limited to the upper outside area of the knee, and maybe a little inside the joint. Oh, and it hurt like hell when I bumped my knee straight into the patella against a table leg last night.

Any ideas as to what I did? And how to treat it?

It's possible you've got an ACL injury. Those typically happen if there is weight on the knee while there's a twist in it. Happens to skier and footballers.

The only way to know for sure is to go to a doctor or physio who specialises in sports medicine. The average GP is likely to tell you to rest until it is better, which is often good advice, but if there is an ACL injury, you may need therapy or even surgery.

    Get it checked out.
