Why would anyone buy a Mac instead of a PC?

    Apple MacBook Pro:
    15" Glossy Screen
    2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB memory
    120GB hard drive
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
    Integrated Webcam
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 128MB SDRAM
    $1999

    Dell Inspiron 1521:
    15.4" Glossy Screen
    2.2GHz AMD Turion? 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-64
    1GB Memory (2GB from Crucial costs $55.99)
    120GB Hard Drive
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    Integrated Webcam 2.0M Pixel
    ATI RADEON Xpress1270 HyperMemory Graphics
    $889

Why do people spend an extra $1100 for the exact same hardware? I'm not trying to be biased...I just know so many people who swear by Apple computers and I don't really understand why. The one reason I always hear is that Macs have fewer viruses but I use XP on a Dell with a free antivirus program and have never had a single problem.

    Am I missing something?

but they are VERY overpriced. not to mention good luck doing hardware upgrades yourself on your mac.
if its a notebook who cares. if I wanted a desktop I would build an intel quad core. but for a portable I love my macbook pro. Operating system doesn't even need a key and I can restore all or parts of it from back up which it does automatically for me. programs work together in a way that is just nice, and using automator to macro pretty much anything I need done in the operating system from organizing porn to adding MP3s after I torrent them to itunes then deleting original files (b/c it copies them to itunes).

I love it, but yes the hardware itself may be overpriced. The macbooks are still a steal in my opinion though.

If you needed a Mac you would know. I need one and I depend on my Mac to run my business. Many software applications in the entertainment industry are proprietary to the Macintosh OS. Also, OSX is Unix based so it is MUCH more dependable than Windows. I could go on but I won't.

Because you can build it yourself. Can't really build yourself a mac and have it fully supported. If OSX supported all hardware configurations the prices would be the same, actually OSX would be way cheaper than vista ultimate.

I have a PC but macs are sick! I love using them at my friends or families house. even though that the price is high, I would buy a mac instantly if I had the money

The same could be said about PC.

Too many software options won't work on macs.

Care to give me an example of an industry where a Mac is 'required'?

    I can't think of any.

Vista is much better at managing memory, cpu power, and network traffic than XP. Apllications dont ever crash the OS either, which can happen sometimes on XP.

I duel boot ubuntu linux and vista.
