I'm a manmore AND a Mormon!
A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

Woe to the thinker who is not the gardener but only the soil of the plants that grow in him."

I remember once in history class the professor was talking about mormons. Then some kid raised his hand and said "I'm a mormon" then the professor lol'd and some the of the students also started laughing. But he wasn't kidding he really was mormon. Then he got pissed and made a long speech about what the mormon religion is all about and how we should respect people with different views.
I am in this thrad.

I went through a similar thing in high school. I was the only Mormon in my graduating class (not quite 500 kids). When we got to the section in my AP US History class on "Utopian Societies" and started on Mormonism, the whole class just started staring at me. My teacher didn't know I was LDS, and as soon as she did, she asked me to give that portion of the lecture, and correct her notes.
I did, as if anyone listened. But the irony was when we took the real AP exam that year. One of the required essays, the DBQ, was about the Mormon migration to Utah. I whipped out the essay in 20 minutes. When we got out of the exam, my teacher, an AP grader, just looked at me and shook her head. "You blew the water out of that one, I guess." She told me later that she saw my essay score, after another grader had finished with it. I got a perfect score.
But the other side was my senior AP English Comp class. We did a two day essay test on the Book of Job vs. JB by Archibald Mcleish. I wrote it from the LDS perspective and my teacher decided that I was a religion expert. I could do pretty well with most of her questions, but some were so outlandish that it made the whole class burst out laughing at how stupid they were (Ex. Asking a 17 year old Mormon for an off the cuff explanation of Abraxan Gnosticism, for example. http://altreligion.about.com/library...efsabraxas.htm )Last edited by b.spencer; 04-14-2008 at 11:01 PM.

Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee

The mormon religion was based on the charlatan Joseph Smith. Its obvious that he completely made up the entire book of mormon and it is clearly a scam. That said, the LDS has created a very good religion out of that phonies teachings. Mormons are all very cool people with close families and great morals. I dont belong to any faith, but really admire all the mormons that I know. If Smith wasnt such a fraud and liar, and I could believe at least a scintilla of what he wrote, then I would join the LDS. My problem is that I cant turn my mind off and accept his teachings.
