Lisa's "gonna keep it up" journal
Ok, I will try to keep this journal up, although I must admit I am lazy about posting, but I realized that is quite selfish when I spend so much time learning stuff from other people.
After competing in figure on August 27th, I spent the next week worrying about the storm, my family (they are ok), eating and packing on the pounds. I was 103 for the competition and today I am 115. I feel fat even though I know I am not. My hubby did say he is glad my "curves" are back! My bodyfat went from 9.8 at competition to 12.6 today. I would like to keep it there, but I know if I want to compete again next year I will have to eat and put on a little mass. Anyway, tried to do legs today and it seemed like my workout was short, but I guess it is not as intense as competition training. It just feels weird spending the time I used to spend working out on something else, like laundry and house cleaning! And yesteday was my 18th wedding anniversary, so that was fun, although we did not do anything special.
Y'all have a good one,
Lisa

Awww, Happy Anniverary! We'll be 23 this year.
Congrats on your contest! You had too much excitement going on around yours, that's for sure. I'm glad you are doing well.
I'm glad to be getting some curves back also. I will get my bodyfat taken tomorrow and report the damage.
Nice job getting the leggies done. That's on the agenda for me tomorrow also. Yuck.
Take care and I'm glad you're going to be keeping a journal.

I still have not been able to get below 10% -- but it's do or die for my 50th birthday on Jan 1st.
I admire the fact that you entered a competition. I would like to do the same, but I'm just now beginning to admit to myself that I would not have the willpower, diet-wise, for such a low bf % on stage as required. I could get close, but close isn't good enough.
I hope your news from down south is good news.

Thanks for the anniversary wishes, everyone!
never2late--NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!
Good morning to all!
Wow, I feel like I cannot get it together.....first of all, after working out legs yesterday and getting a great start on my diet I blew it all again yesterday afternoon. I just can't stay out of the peanut butter. I thought after so much dieting, when the natural PB was my only vice, I would never want to eat it again, but I can't stop! I read on another message board where someone wrote, "natural peanut butter is the crack rock of clean eaters everywhere!" and I totally agree!!
And I ate a regular hamburger with ground round 16 grams fat per 4 oz on white bread at 7:00!! (The stores are totally out of wheat bread due to the storm, but I am not complaining about that). Off to bed where I was awakened with a severe charlie horse in my calf and my legs are so sore from yesterday's "lets get back into the swing of things" workout I can barely walk!
Today, I slept in, now drinking coffee--with no sugar of course--ate my protein pancakes, which I still adore after months of eating them, and trying to decide whether to go to the gym or not.
Yesterday I spent over an hour just talking to everyone who was asking about my competition. I had to hear from everyone, "you look so much better now, you looked anorexic before" and it is kind of annoying. Plus everyone who is talking to me are looking me up and down to see how much weight I have gained! I have some pics that I posted here on my website, but I am going to get some more on Friday from a photographer who was there...it is not much of a website so far, but it is www.fitlisa.com if anyone wants to take a look...my hubby made it for me, he is so sweet!
I was thinking about doing another competition in October in Baton Rouge, but since all of the storm stuff, I decided to wait til next year. My friend who competes is trying to talk me into doing the npc jr usa's in South Carolina (hey hibby!) in April 2006 but I don't know if I am ready for that!
So anyway, I will think about going to the gym, and I do know that i will feel 100 percent better if I go!
Y'all have a good one,
Lisa

Nice pics, Lisa. You looked great!
I'm surprised your market is out of wheat bread. When we got hit with hurricanes last year, all the less healthy stuff went first -- I was able to get wheat bread and organic milk long after the regular stuff was gone.
Nice website, too. (You might want your husband to resize the photos so they load faster and fit on a screen.)
I love natural pb. I get the Marantha brand (organic) and it is sooooo yummy. I am sure you deserve a few treats after your competition

Hey thanks!
Yeah, I think the wheat bread thing is a distribution problem...at least that is what my "bread man" said, but I will abstain from bread until it is fixed!!
My hubby is usually pretty good about pics on a website, but he just kinda threw them up there so relatives in Louisiana who could not make it because they evacuated west see them. He intends to put more and resize them to load faster.
Thanks again
Lisa

Thanks, Jag-I am trying my best to keep it up.
Ok, today I got off my ass and went to the gym..1.5 hours but about 30 minutes of that was talking. While I was there I did chest and triceps:
Flat bench press
weighted dips on dip bar...more about that later
single arm chest press on cables
rope tricep extensions on cable
cable flies down and front
I do not track weight and sets, but I do either drop sets or 3-4 sets for everything.
WARNING, THE FOLLOWING IS A RANT BY LISA:
Anyway, when I was doing weighted dips, some dude comes over and asks me if he can give me some advice about my form...GIVE ME A BREAK!! "Ok", I said nicely. He proceeds to tell me that should not lock my elbows when I come up and I should go down more. AHHHHHH!!! I told him that the tricep is fully contracted when the arm is straight, and I did not want to blow out my shoulder from going too far down. After I told him I am coming off of a competition program, he settled down and got defensive and then proceeded to tell me how he was a "self employed" kung fu instructor. And he was so nice he offered to help me with any questions I have in the future!! WOW,THANKS!! So I then continued to do my dips my way. WHAT IS THE DEAL!! I know without a doubt that if I was a dude there is NO way he would walk up to me and give me advice. I don't mind taking advice from a professional, like a bodybuilder or maybe even a physical therapist, but dude, I think I know what I am doing! And this is the second time in a few months that some nitwit tries to tell me how to workout. I guess it is back to wearing my headphones (you know, the international workout symbol for leave me the f**K alone) and being totally unsocial--I took a break recently from earphones because so many people were talking to me about the competition.
RANT OVER
So then I came home, ate corn tortillas with lean ground beef and then went to the grocery store.
Still can't stay out of the peanut butter--my obsession right now is rice cakes with natural PB and sugar free jelly--YUM!

Lisa, I'm also looking forward to reading your journal. Glad you finally decided to start one! Congrats on the anniversary and I'm glad your family all made it through the storm!
I totally understand the need for headphones. I'm sure I am known as the biggest b#tch in my gym but I'm not there to talk! I don't even like to ask for a spot because then that opens me up to the talking....
I checked out your web site and you looked great! Especially for someone who did it all on their own. I am looking at doing a competition in April or May of next year and am starting to realize that I'm probably not going to be able to do the nutrition part on my own. Congrats to you for doing it!!!

Pooey. Trying to get to your website. I'll keep trying. LOL
The Junior U.S.A.'s are in Charleston -- a beautiful place!
I know what you mean about the unsolicited advice. It all depends on the delivery and who is giving the advice. If it's someone I respect and know to be a good trainer, then fine. Otherwise, please leave me alone. It amazes me who will come up to me and tell me how to lift. Idgits. Ut oh. I'm getting ready to rant in your journal. I'd better stop. LOL Let's just say I do agree it can be quite annoying.
Oh, your website is loading. I'll go check it out.

Nice pics Lisa. With the dips, I go right down or have been doing for a few weeks. I'm asissted though by 62KG's at the moment so I'm only dipping the equivalent of a toddler in weight. LOL! I feel doing them as the guy said and starting at low weights to give my ligaments a chance to toughen up will help and I surmise it will take longer than muscle for this to happen. Had a shoulder injury last year so it may be seen I'm babying them at the moment with so much assisted weight, and the right side is barely getting a workout but I'll continue at the form above until the left one catches up with the right.

I've asked for an MP3 Player for Christmas in part for this same reason. At my gym, there is one guy who periodically follows me around and makes a big show of watching me. He then proclaims my form "perfect." It's really distracting and it makes me feel very self-conscious. I sure hope the headphones "cure" this!

Good luck with that one dbfl. You may end up having to say something to him. Bozos don't seem to notice the headphone thing.

Ok, Thursday half over already!
Gunn27--thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!
IronBelle-good job on the dips, I really love doing them, especially with a weight belt on--they have really developed my arms! Sorry you have an injury, hope you feel better soon!
dbflgirl-I know how you feel. Headphones help, but I have found what works for me is to not make any eye contact with anyone and put a really bitchy look on my face, although that is not the "me" inside! Sometimes I wear my headphones when my battery runs out just to pretend so people leave me alone. I REALLY want a shirt that says "Leave me alone, I am working out" or something like that!
Ditto to what Hibby said.
rpaul11-Thanks a lot, I don't know why it would not work, no porn on my site!
ExCompetitor-so true! I think there is one at every gym every hour!!
jaguarr-that is FREAKIN HILARIOUS!! He did seem to know about martial arts, and although I respect martial arts, I am a bodybuilder and am not really interested in that at this time in my life!
But nothing beats the time some dude walked up to me (with my headphones on) and said, "Everytime I see you here you are working out your legs and if you keep that up they are going to get HUGE!" umm...isn't that the point of muscle building???? DUFUS! Plus, it is kind of creepy that he knew what I was working all the time and why would he care if my legs are big? Men are so lucky they don't have to put up with that sh!t.
So today, I woke up at 5:00am, taught my deep water exercise class, came home, ate protein pancakes, got freshened up and went back to the gym for back and biceps......in which I performed...
Unassisted and assisted chin ups, with various handgrips
Cybex eagle row machine
Hammer strength iso lateral row
double cable lat pull downs
preacher curl
straight bar bicep curl
I did lots of sets with pretty high weights and lower reps. Took about an hour. Now I am home and I made a shake with banana (haven't had one in a long time) protein powder, handful of uncle sam flax cereal for crunch, almond and coconut extracts and cinnamon. Tasted like a pie! YUM!
Off to do laundry..
Lisa

They are!!! I had one at the gym come up to me and say in a deep voice trying to sound like Barry White, "I really liked those blue satin shorts you had on last week." Last week??!!! I didn't know what the Hell he was talking about. I don't wear blue satin shorts to the gym and why is he remembering something I had on last week and commenting on it??!! Guess he wasn't focused on the current outfit. LOL
This morning I was out grocery shopping and walked by this elderly man who was staring at me smiling. He was old enough that I figured he was safe. So, as I walked by I made eye contact and I get "You look GOOOOODDDD!" whispered at me lewdly. Lawd have mercy!! Even the elderly! LMAO!

I like both Uncle Sam's cereal and sometimes I mix in 40/30/30 with it - -that's a pretty good cereal also. I made protein cookies today and added a banana. They were pretty good.
