$1000 to Spend, what do you think of what I have so far?

    Hello Everyone, Happy Thanksgiving
I have $1000 to spend on a home fitness center and here's what I have so far:

    From Dicks Sporting Goods:
    Proform Fusion 2.0X Olympic Bench-$200
    http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...tPage=family#1

Cap Barbell Regular Solid Chromed E-Z Curl Bar-$20.00
    http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...rling+bar&sr=1

    Cap Barbell Standard Plate Rack-$40.00
    http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...entPage=family

    Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells-$400
    http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...tPage=category

    300lb Weight Set-$200 (from Amazon)
    http://www.amazon.com/VTX-300-Pound-...sbs_sg_title_1

total: $860, with tax and everything it should come out to about $1000.

This way I have all the basics I need to start out
1.Bench-incline, decline, preacher curl, leg curl
    2. 300lb weight set with straight bar
    3. EZ curling bar
    4. Adjustable dumbells

That about covers it right? Any advice or suggestions, thanks in advance

With a budget like that (1k is pretty good imo) you can do way better

    Here's what I would get:

Power Rack (I have powertec and like it)
FID Bench (I have powertec I like it but there are better options imo)
    300lb weight set
    2 dumbbell handles
    Curl Bar

With this you can basically do it all...with the power rack you will be able to perform squats, lunges, basically any leg exercise...

You can bench in it along with your FID Bench..

You can even do deadlifts and rows in it, if space is an issue..(I deadlift inside the rack because I don't have a whole lot of space)

You wil be able to do seated and standing military presses (standing ones mighthave to be done outside of the rack, I do them like this and have no problems..)

Check out brands like Powertec, Body-Solid/Powerline, check out craigslist, Ebay...etc

    Best of luck, JM

Im with joey mo and brick_outhouse on this one. You can get a much stronger bench for the same money as your expecting to spend.

If instead of DB's you could think about a 300lbs olympic set from dicks sporting goods (100+/-)

Throw in an ebay rack (new 179) or a more well known brand (300+/-)

Quality FID bench ironmaster, bodysolid, etc. (250-350)

Then if you really want db's, you can get a spinlock set and throw in enough weight to achieve 50lbs per handle for less than a 100.

I think you would have alot more options this way and get more bang for your buck.

you can find a much better bench.

get a curl bar that take olympic weights(or skip the bar and use your reg oly bar)

plate rack is fine i suppose

skip dumbells and get a 300lb set, or two, one will stay on rack one will stay on floor and buy it from dicks for like 120 instead of 200

add a power rack in here and you are in business

As others have said, a power rack is essential for a home gym. It will let you safely do all kinds of freeweight exercises without a spotter.

Decent racks can be had for around $350.00 to $400.00.

    This bench...

...is commercial-rated and holds 1000+ pounds. I have it and love it. Mine was $249.00 plus taxes. It's a Body Solid.

300 pound Olympic barbell sets can be had new for around $100.00 to $150.00. They're on sale at Sears all the time.

Add an EZ-Curl bar and Olympic dumbbell handles, all for probably under $100.00.

Shop around for deals and all of this can be had (including taxes) for under $1000.00.

    Oly bar (90-110 dicks)
    bench

is pretty much what every1 should start out with. curl bar, lat attatchment comes to mind for addons
