In terms of looks/physical attraction.
In the summer, I go out and try to get a tan, but in the winter, I'm not one to go to a tanning bed, and, thus, I'm no where near as tan as I am in the summer. It kind of sucks in the gym not having a tan.

To me it is not a big deal whether my man is tan or not. He is very pale for a white American and I love the way it is. i am naturally tan though and i like my skin color. i like the combination.

Well, tans that are acquired artificially in beds are just not attractive...
I prefer the healthy glow of a man that works outside or rides/jogs/walks outside.

Heck, my husband is German...
brown eyed and dark hair with the pastey white skin!
I love him no matter how dark he gets in the summer.

I like the dark hair, light eyes look no matter what the skin color is. Of course a nice tan doesn't hurt... Having that said, the way to acquire a tan is iffy at best- skin cancer, future wrinkles, streaky. I am having a tough time finding a way to have color in a safe way so I can understand whiter skin more these days.

Tanning in the winter is so unecessary. Besides, the last time I checked, skin cancer wasn't hot either. LOL.
Seriously, though - if one is outdoors, they'll get their natural, healthy glow. It's pretty easy to spot someone who lays in a fake n' bake. Don't worry your head over it, man. You're fine the way you are.

im pretty tan so i like the coloiur difference of my skin vs my slightly paler bf
if having a tan is purely for aesthetic purposes then try out tanning, it enhances definition like crazy! (more shadows)
going tanning occasionally throughout the winter is extremely relaxing, however if you look like a bronze goddess in the middle of january people might ask how your vacation was
seeing a man with a nice (not orange) tan is attractive because it normally indicates a higher level of outdoor activity... and who doesnt love outdoor adventures :P

If you think that going to a tanning bed a couple times per week, year round, can't cause skin cancer, then you are wrong!
A friend of mine did just that very thing, to give her a year round "glow" and she ended up getting skin cancer on her nose.
Tanning beds are terrible for you, and you don't usually give it a second thought when you're young... but you will regret it when you're older. My great aunt was a sun worshiper when she was younger, and she looks like 20 years older than my grandmother (who is actually the older one).
They have some really good self tanners these days.. that don't leave you orange, or smell funny. You could give them a try

I don't find tans natural or from tanning beds to be worth the risk for myself or my husband. Health > looking slightly better. If you are so white it bothers you, get a self-tanner, the kind that gradually builds up.

I personally think everyone looks a little better with a tan. That's my personal opinion though and you have to realize I'm basically Tan-o-rexic. I don't have that terrible orange glow, but I tend to tan quite a bit more than most people. I love it. Therefore I tend to like men tan also.
BUT, then let me say this. My fiance is a red head. Needless to say he's not exactly tan so to speak. BUT, for a red head he does tan better than other red heads I've been around. He's not pasty white either like a lot of red heads I've been around. Then again, he has a lot of freckles too which make his skin look darker and not sooooo fair. All in all, my fiance is HOT and he's probably the "palest" guy I've ever dated. So really, I guess it just comes down to the person and how they look with and without a tan.
I cannot stand a guy who is tooooo fake tan. It screams vanity which then makes me think they're automatically a jerk. Probably not a fair judgement, but that's what I think. :-)
