My workout partner & I did the BB.com's 1 set max workout 3X's a week for 1 month & I put 30lbs on my max bench( 1 rep.) When I tell me friends that my max went from 135 to 165, they're like I know this chick that can bench 185 or some other dumb comment blah blah blah. Im 5'4'' weigh 144 & measure 36X27X34. Weigh a lot more than I look. So what weight should I shoot for? Is there a norm/standard for females on a max bench??? I dont know many females that work out. Figured I'd ask you guys. AND Be honest!

vs normal societal standards, a girl who can put up their own bodyweight even once is unusually strong.
I've read statistics saying the average (countrywide US, not gymgoer) *male* adult maximum bench press would be around 130 to 145lbs."A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

I guess I'm saying you're way above the norm for a bench.
What you should aim for depends entirely on your goals. Do you want to compete in powerlifting or do you just want bragging rights?"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

cool!
Well, I didnt really think about it till this one guy at the gym said something about a power lifting contest & me entering it, then I asked my friends about it& got nothing but sarcasm. He said that last year the 1 girl that won maxed out at 115... Might be an easy win, but what do I know??? I train a lot, and I dont feel anywhere near a plateau. WHat do you think???

body weight for bench definatly isnt bad for a female

If you've put 30lbs on your max in one month, I'd say you are nowhere hear a plateau right now. If you want to compete, GO FOR IT. You'll love itRetired strongwoman and powerlifter. Now living for God!

Thanks
I do everything as far as lifting goes. I do legs 1-2X's a week & I guess I can do about 230 or so on a max squat W/ free weights. I dont really like to do it though cuz Im afraid I'll hurt my back. I do a lot of pullups, dips & pushups, intense swimming or running, then lift at night. Im training for this school that I start this tuesday. The power lifting contest is going to be in the middle of the school/training, so I dont know if Ill be 2 beat up to go, but can't hurt to try. Thanks though!!!!!... Ill go sign up as soon as the flyer comes out!

The single ply american record in NASA for the 148 pound class is 203.93 lbs. The single ply means she was wearing a bench shirt just in case you werent aware of shirts.
