How far down do you guys go on chinups? I find that the last 20 degrees or so of arm bend (the part where you go from having tension on the biceps to a dead hang) is absolutely killer. If I stop right at that position I am much stronger.

I usually do full ROM. And then when really isolating the muscle on certain days, right when I am about to reach failure I lock my elbows at 90 degrees contraction (half ROM) and then bounce up and down not going all the way up and not going all the way down until I reach failure.
What I've seen from people that never do full ROM is that they tend to cheat ALOT more than someone who does go full ROM.Olympic Weightlifting: Cuban Method

Of course anything less than a full pullup isn't a full pullup. Self evident. That doesn't mean the full pullup is BETTER though.
I use full ROM for strength purposes. I also have no problem initiating the pull with my back.
In time, I'll find ROM that works best for me bodybuilding wise as well.Interested in investing in militarizing poultry? Based in our Southernmost continent, no local taxes, no laws to worry about, guaranteed return! PM for further details
