    Question Bench Press world records?

I was watching some football game for a few minutes yesterday and the announcer was saying how so and so player benches 700 pounds and showed his bench press rig all set up with 7 plates per side.

I call "shenanigans" but I really don't know....

Yeah, they were talking about the Cowboy's lineman Larry Allen, who's considered to be the strongest man in the NFL ever. I thought I remembered he did the 700 raw (Could be wrong though) but he definitely had help from the spotters.

And the Cowboys would be crazy to let him try it otherwise.

Well Larry Allen is definiately the strongest man in the NFL, and most likely the strongest ever. I think, but not entirely exact, but he about 6'5-6'6, 340++. So he has the size, plus the fact that I am pretty sure he has the high school record for reps of 185 on bench for football. I know he did at least 60 reps, and that was as an upcoming senior, when most of the combines are. I bench 330, and did 28 reps, so I think 60 reps would place him somewhere in the 500 range, judging form my experience lifting with guys stronger than me, and seeing other people at 450 bench in high school. He may have done more than 60 but I am not sure.

So 700 does seem feasible to me, judging that the man is now about 15 years older or more than he was when he did 185 60+ putting him somewhere near 500.

    12/20/05 shoulder surgery
4/04/06 First week back to lifting 208, roughly 14%
    6/07/06
    Bench: 3 reps @ 275
    Squat: 5 reps @ 275
    Weight: roughly 213
    Bf%: Roughly 13%

no it doesnt mean ****.... no one is gonna be able to bench 185 60 times, and only be able to lift 225 pounds or something like that...

sure its not as accurate as if he lifted 650 twice or something like that.. but it is an indication.... it does mean "****"...

Arnold did 225 for 60, and he only maxed out around 500. I think 185 for 60 might be around 430 or so.

yea i agree, ive seen guys who can bench close to 400lbs but when they try and do the 225 multiple times they struggle, because it takes alot of correct breathing and stamina. Thats like saying someone who runs a 4.3 40yard dash, can run a 8 minute 2 mile. Totally differnt even though its the same activity.

There's a kid here in SD that I've personally seen do a 430 Touch and Go bench as a Junior at 290. He claims to be doing around 450 now, and this is all RAW. It's pretty impressive stuff.
